What.
I liked the game dynamics; the shaking was well-handled, being actually frightening for the player; the shifting of the camera as different gradients were scaled was sweet, and the, I dunno the word for it, the ambient sound I guess, where the music and other sound effects were muted as you entered the water was a really nice touch.
Also, holding the spacebar at the checkpoints is pretty funny the first time.
However.
Altair makes less leaps of faith than this guy does. Seriously. If I could fall that far or jump that high, I would be rechristened Superman, and made to wear red underwear outside my spandex pants.
His inability to swim is somewhat believable, I guess, but only because Altair can't swim either.
Seriously, he looks just like him.
Also, the ending was like this gigantic kick in the balls. Dude. Seriously?
Not going to spoil it, but seriously. That is the ultimate cheap shot.
Finally, the bit where he just stabs this one weak spot on the monster FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE just seems kind of ridiculous. If he were to do the stabby thing at each checkpoint, I could buy it, but this way just seems unbelievable.
Yes I know some checkpoints aren't actually on the monster, like the first one in the last level, but still.
I give the gameplay and the ambience like 10/10, for reals, but the other bits I've complained about dragged it down for me. I'd give it 8/10, but FLYING SEAHORSE HOLY SHIT i have to give it 9/10.
Also, 5/5.
