Reviews for "Hot Ninja Moon Moon"

Meh

I'll talk about everything I don't like first. Whenever you click the newgrounds opening at the beginning the game freezes. I sometimes double jump when I hit the jump button once. I really would have liked a button to reset the game, because i'm going for the Flawless Victory medal and having to refresh every time I make a mistake is annoying. One of the unreachable coins was annoying. I figured out how to get it, but I think that was just dumb. But I love both characters and the not impossible challenge. Getting unlimited tries was a pro, because some parts are ridiculously hard (I'm mostly thinking of the one where you have to jump up three midair platforms and a huge saw is going back and forth fastly). I don't know what people are talking about when they say Meat Boy can get 10 pieces of 8. Playing as Tyrone, I can get 7, and playing as Meat Boy, I can get 8. Also, I know this is a remake of a different game, but I would like to see a sequel. This game feels like a mix between ninja gaiden and mega man, two games that I loved. Overall, great game, but it has some room for improvement.

Not so bad... but...

It's not bad but... not good either. You have to improve it a bit

Retro

When i was playing this it made me feel like i was playing a retro Super Nintendo game and that is done very well by the music, the plat-forming (gameplay) and best of all the 8-bit graphics. It is great how you included meat boy in this version just before the release of Super Meat boy. This game would have been better if the game went for a bit longer because it didn't last very long. This would have gone in my favorites but it is hard to compare it with the others (meat boy and shift 4) when shift 4 and meat boy kept me coming back for more (to finish it and check out the extras), but this one didn't last very long and there weren't much extras. But other than that it seems to be really fun and entertaining and even if the story mode is short you can keep on replaying it to practice showing of to your mates.

Slick

First I want to say that the reviewer below me is probably mistaken about the controls. Reviewer "thehitcher03" is probably walking off the edge of platforms and then hitting jump, which of course causes you to use your double jump.

Anyway, the game was slick and responsive. Great retro soundtrack. Reasonably frustrating challenge. But it is too short for a higher rating. I mean, I got all coins on my first run through, and it only took like 20 minutes. I was going to give it 6, but it was awesome fun. I'd love to see like 50 more levels and maybe some secrets, easy/hard paths, enemies, etc. etc. There's so much you could do with this game!

It's pretty good as it is, though.

Seven

The music is awesome, bursting with retro goodness with a ninja-like feel. I can say the same about the graphics; pixellated, but dark and ninja-like. It comes together to make a unique, impressive looking, and sounding, game. The gameplay itself is sound, being simple and easy to grasp; avoid the obstacles and get to the next screen. The fact that you get unlimited tries is a perfect counterweight to the tricky platfoming and hazards, making you plan out your route after a little trial and error, making it all the sweeter when your well-thought out route succeeds.
Unfortunatley, it is the controls which prevents this game from reaching beyond a seven from me. They keys you need to use are perfect, no problem there; it's the fact that the jump button is so ridiculously sensitive that ruins this game. Precise platforming is imperative to this game, but a mere brush of the jump button will have that ninja double jumping into a nano-second after his feet have left the ground. It makes the game hard for all the wrong reasons; it's not our lack of skill, it's the way too strong sensitivity of the jump button.
Whilst the sheer charm of the game and the lust for the challenge may make many of us overlook this huge problem, and even complete the game, it's not enough to see it past a seven, or at least not from me.
Overall, a good game that would be great after a few fixes.
