Reviews for "Link Misses His Target"

Everyone's getting really butt-hurt lately...

First and foremost, to address the elephant in the room-- Yeah, making a flash movie to basically go and publicly tell the audience that his movie was crap and didn't deserve the fame is pretty low on your part. Especially considering that you yourself could've done ALOT better in my opinion.
Admittedly, we do the same with things like the Twilight series, but let me tell you one thing: You can't change public opinion, no matter how dumb it is.
If we could, no one would drink, no one would smoke, eat shitty food that would kill them, and everyone would be tree hugging, peace loving family of the Earth and nations. (Me being a "sinner" in almost all of these mentioned.) I digress, but sad to say it, as an entertainer, you play the crowd the best you can, even if your crowd is retarded.

Anyway! About the movie itself... Superb animation. Loved your art-style and care for detail, despite the short time frame you worked with. The music did get a bit irritating and redundant, including the voices-- which really should've been played up. Such as, the music should've gotten more intense per shot and/or different music played for each segment. The audio-portal is a vast, and bountiful place for music. The voice actress itself (btw, Kudos to ya Hnilmik) should've been directed to get frustrated with Link, or at least do different takes for each scene you did. I realize Navi is irritating, but I shouldn't have to hate the actress with her. I've worked with the VAC before, these guys are top-notch, and can do almost anything you ask, don't hesitate to push their limits sometimes, seriously. They may even need it for practice/their portfolios.

If you really wanted to go ahead and improve the original, especially by show-casing the many different avenues he could've gone down for the joke, I think it would've made a WORLD of difference if you actually connected each segment by making it into a story. I.E., each shot is from the same event, that Link is just sitting there repeatedly shooting arrows until he hits the twin-towers and tosses the bow and arrow to Ganon and runs like hell. For the most part, the repeat-set-up in such a quick jump distracted me and didn't let any of the jokes really sit long enough to be enjoyed. Although I did smirk at apple of Eden bit. You gotta lead your audience, don't keep throwing glitter at them hoping they stay interested.

In a nutshell, Animation and Art = Awesome, keep going man. Writing = Getting there, take a little extra time next time and maybe beta test with a small group of friends. Music and Voices = Seriously work on that, the wrong acting and wrong music can kill even the best classics. Imagine your favorite movie with your most hated song played over it on loop.
You're doing amazingly well despite it all, and you're on the right track. I checked out your page and I think once you branch off and do your own thing (maybe animate that web comic you got there?) You might be the new Newgrounds Legend. Been waiting for someone to challenge Egoraptor for awhile now. ;)
Best of luck, and hope to see more from you man!

DannyP responds:

Damn, woulda been nice if I could've somehow got you to help with the writing beforehand. Your ideas are all great and would've made this Flash really worthwhile. I'll keep your suggestions in mind and try to apply them to future projects.

But I don't think his movie was "crap", per se - just overrated. Unfortunate about public opinion, but you're absolutely right.

The thing with the music is that I tried to time the animation to the beat... I wanted to let more of the song be heard, but I'd have to do the animation all over again if I wanted to keep it timed... and I wasn't prepared to do that for a small parody. Though if I used your nice writing, that wouldn't have been an issue.
Good points about the use of the music and voice acting. I'm feeling kinda bad that I attached their work to mine since people might transfer some of their hate for me to them, plus I could've used their work better as you say.

Regarding Egorapter, it's a funny thing you mention that... I've been thinking of doing my own "generic anime" parody (I have the "opening theme" on my site, subject to change). I actually had ideas to do so before Girlchan was released, but that's more where the inspiration is coming from (though I won't copy the minimal lip sync thing or intentionally bad voice acting). I've also been thinking of doing a collection of shorts based on some of my webcomics, though that probably wouldn't do as well since a lot of the humour is pretty subtle. With my best efforts, I could probably win some awards, but I'd probably be one of the guys who gets forgotten about within a week or two... but you never know, haha. Thanks for the vote of confidence and extremely helpful review.

I don't know...

I don't know if I can fully support a flash that's sole purpose was to be completely spoofed from the creator not even a couple weeks after its release. Yes i agree with your mesage you are trying to say that it was nothing special or well animated but why bother going this far. I also believe this was better then the original but i don't know if thats saying very much :/. I guess my only suggestion for you is make YOUR own work because YOU actually have a better talent for animating and art rather then the guy you were making fun of :P. I'm sure you can come up with an idea that will make your way onto the frontpage ;).
Good Luck!

DannyP responds:

Seems like all my current animation projects/plans are pretty unoriginal... I have more original ideas I planned to make as comics, but your review makes me think that maybe I should animate some of them. Pretty much all of my Flash work so far has been parodies... But you're right, I (and other Flash artists) should show the world what my mind's come up with. I doubt I'll ever be on the front page, but thanks for the vote of confidence, and thanks for the honest review.

Why navi never die

It's the second short of link miss the target... But still... She alive T-T

Nice

Yours is better

ill be honest...

i did want something to happen to navi (like you were making fun of in the video) but about the actual movie, i personally didnt like how it kept on repeating the basic begining... and i lost interest after the part with ganon and the ending was unusual in a sorta bad way. however overall though the jokes were funny because they weren't part of zelda or for that matter any other game (besides duckhunt). no random cojiro or anything which was what i was thinking would appear at any moment. one last thing, the music was awesome, for lack of a better word.

6 out of 10 because of repetition and the ending wasnt too good in my opinion and is what killed it to me but the jokes were unexpected and worth a "chuckle," animation was ok, and the drawing style was nice and "cartoony" (?)

one last thing. if youre gonna have things that are meant to be read then you should give more time for people to read them or add a pause button because some of us (like me) are too lazy to right click and pause

DannyP responds:

As I responded to an earlier review, the full intro thing was 16 seconds and I cut it down on the repeats (skipped 8 seconds on the last repeat). But there have been complaints, so I guess I should've cut it down more. I just wanted to sorta keep the flow of "shoot -> result". Rather than "shoot -> result -> result -> result", and I wasn't about to waste time redoing all that frame by frame a few times over.

Yeah, I think my criticism of Newgrounds' users is what's hurting my score the most, but that's pretty much the message I wanted to get across, and score doesn't matter that much to me. I doubt I'll make any difference, but I've read some nice reviews here by people like me... and even by people who disagree with it. Just some true opinions like yours, not the same old empty reviews you see in movies these days. This isn't an amazing movie, so it's not like I need a 4.00 score. Currently sitting at 3.66, which is shows people thought it was alright, so I can rest easy knowing most people were fairly amused.

The quick text in a nutshell was just "don't upload my movie to YouTube on your own and don't edit the credits out if you DO steal it" and I put some of the credits into the movie just in case they were gonna do something like that (makes it trickier for them if they're gonna bother). People have stolen my work and uploaded it to other sites, which is pretty annoying. When they uploaded "Copy Ninja vs. Copyright" to YouTube, they excluded all credits... so I decided to stick them right into the movie.

Don't forget to comment on and listen to the full song in the Audio Portal; MosesX50 should be getting that praise :P
