Outstretched Shadow...
This reminds me exceedingly much of Mercedes Lackey's "Obsidian Trilogy". A bit different from the whole overall concept, but it got the humans, centaurs and elves in there. Pretty damn good, though I think there need to be some more helpful upgrades aside from sheer force.
