Reviews for "Redshift"

glitch with the chain lightning

The chain lightning gun seems to hit almost everything on screen, but it only shows damage for 2 or 3. likewise, the lightning animation only appeares to jump between the first ship shot and a random nearby ship. I've played through a few levels and it seems like everything almost is getting hit by the gun, but it doesn't show them getting hit, just them exploding after the fact.

Still though, great game.

Good game

Good game took up a lot of my time today.

The weapon system reminds me of borderlands weapons system.

This definitely gets a 10 BUT a -1 making a 9 for having no ending to the storyline it definitely needs one.

Very fun game, with a few small problems.

This game was very enjoyable, and I spent several hours playing it before I beat it. I really like the huge variety of weapons, but there were a lot of them that weren't very useful. There weren't any lasers that I felt were good compared to other weapons of the same level because of the low firing speed and the inability to hit multiple targets unless you also hit a mine or missile. Also, the lightning weapons never were able to compare to other weapons (even with the chain hits some of them had) because of a slow rate of fire. The homing function was nice, but the slow hits were too big of a disadvantage.
I felt that the rockets, grenades, and saws were well balanced against each other because the high end weapons in each of those categories all felt comparable in strength (they all also happen to hurt the enemy multiple times when they connect). There was an error with the weapon called "Foul-Four Grenade Launcher". It's supposed to fire 4 grenades per shot, but it only fires 2.
I found the equipment screen to be clunky, and I also noticed that there was not a way to return to the equipment screen if you went to the Options. The only way to get back was to return to the game and pause it again. As far as being clunky goes, a way to organize the equipment would be a major improvement. It would also be nice if there was a message that told you what kind of item you got from recycling & redeeming. There were several times where I thought I had received a new item, but ignored it because I didn't feel like scrolling through an enormous list of gear.

This game was far better than many of the games that I've played on Newgrounds, so I hope my review isn't taken in a bad light. There are many excellent things about this game, but I felt writing about the problems would be more beneficial to you if you decide to come back and improve on it.

As a side note, I found the Triple Mutilator Saw Blade Launcher to be the best weapon for quickly dispatching enemies. Each blade can hit the enemy many more times than a grenade or rocket can. The blades will also bounce down to the next enemy if the first one is destroyed, which can result in a big chain of destruction and very quickly eliminate a group of enemies. They seem to disappear after they do damage around 10 times. The only disadvantage is that I found it much more difficult to hit the tiny missiles that appear with some of the enemy groups. With a little practice it's not a big enough problem to change weapons for.

Good, but it could have been so much better

The gameplay in my mind was just fine, and the story was enough to at least make me wonder how it would end. The characters each had nice differences, but truthfully I felt that the blue ship was pretty much useless. It was nice to have a ship that could maneuver more quickly, but the 15% chance of dodge was far less useful than the perks the other two ships provided. I only saw the dodge manifest itself a few times, and every time it was completely negated by another bullet close behind the dodged one.

Another fault I saw was in the items. Sure, there are a healthy number of unique weapons and plenty of variations, but getting the variations is more time consuming than it should be. While playing, I felt like I should not be finding a standard shotgun while I'm level 20 and the enemies I'm fighting would hardly be scratched by it. I was hoping to find some nice weapons and occasionally a rare every mission or so, but it just seemed to be random, with the number of possible weapons growing steadily. Also, the recycling system was utterly pointless. It only once gave to me something useful, and that was soon replaced by a random stroke of luck in the same level. I was hoping that maybe if I recycled enough material to make five items, it would give one item of high quality, but nearly every time, whatever I redeemed just went back to into the recycling.

All in all, the gameplay is very enjoyable, but the item system could use some work.

good shooter

the upgrading system was way too ranom though.
it was all luck if you got a weapon good enough for the next harder levels.
the recycle system was just bad never got anything decent out of it.
also the slow single power shot weapons were just wasted since a spread weapon even weaker ones would work better. the upgrade system should of been a sell what you picked up and buy upgrades. also havnig 2 slots for weapons
equipmet that you could change on the fly would help too since certain weapons are great against non moving mobs but horrid against fast moving mobs.
