Control Boss Mega Ships...LOL
Comment made me laugh, because I'm reminded of Bungie's original Marathon 3D shooter games, where the AI took over a rogue space battleship, and proceeded to use it to bomb planets of enemies into the stone age.
Like others have said, this has tons of potential. The graphics were good, and hit detection was very nice. Once you take over that little ship, you can basically mop everyone else up, though. It has little armor, but is so small it just squeaks by everything.
Side note...folks, your energy recharges slowly over time if you stay in one ship without self-destructing or getting blowed up. Larger ships have more HP/Armor (the gray bar), while the little ship goes down in 1 shot/collision. But that little ship still rocks.
With further expansion on this concept, you could easily rival, if not surpass, console shmups like R-Type. In R-Type, since you're stuck with the ship you chose for an entire level, it limits the puzzle-making ability. But since you can jump ship in this game as you see fit, you could set up a sequel with all kinds of devious scenarious forcing the player to jump to specific ships to solve certain problems at certain times in order to figure out how to, say, expose a boss' weak point, or bypass some defensive grid or whatever. Hell, you could even have the AI jump from point to point on one huge battle ship, taking over gunner stations to blast its way towards the front (or inside) of the ship.
This same concept has been done in other games, like Messiah, where your angel would control various people to do certain tasks. But as an AI character, the possibilities can expand to any kind of futuro technology. Your next game with it could be a stealth infiltration where he's taking over robots to check out a research base, or ...hell, the possibilities are only limited to your creativity. You've really opened a wonderful pandora's box with this one, and I'm interested to see where you take it in the future.
