Reviews for "Fantasy XF"

This is good.

I'll have the play the entire game when I got more time. But I like it. And pretty much what the TheReviewGuy said below me.

Surprisingly, this is better than the sequal. The controls actually work fine in this game.

The screen manages to be shaky, but nothing has happened, in terms of the game glitching out.

I just wish this one had medals to achieve. Regardless, this game is more fun and enjoyable than the sequal.

Nostalgic.

I, for one, will ALWAYS check anything out even barely reminiscent of the original Final Fantasy games. This game captured the same spirit and feel of those, with a nice platforming twist. I've read the reviews from other players and don't have much to add in the way of suggestions.......other than PLEASE keep the cute as all hell noises the enemies make when they pass. Brought a smile to my face nearly every time. Thanks for the great game.

Good, but flawed

Solid RPG platform gameplay. It definitely makes up for the lack of graphics. The whole game is actually a really good make. Good depth and game length and certainly none too shallow. However, good gameplay alone does not propel this far enough as it is eclipsed by several flaws.

I have several very small but personal issues with this thing. Firstly, I would definitely like an in game mute button for the music. It started to really drive me nuts after a while. Secondly was the dual button for the inventory screen. Why? Why not just spacebar again to close it? It's a small thing, but it's rather annoying and it's so much more intuitive to make it the same button. I also found the walk speed a tad too slow for this. With the amount of space to traverse sometimes it takes a little too long.

Speaking of space, I think teleport points are a little too far away. Or if you think they aren't, there certainly needs to be some kind of 'checkpoint' or 'respawn point' available for major areas when you get there. It's kind of tedious to traverse all that space all over again.

To make that matter worse, at some point I think you got a little too repetitive with the area design. I mean, every single screen from the Oasis to the School was exactly the same. Exactly, with the exact same screen, and the exact same enemies. I get the feeling you merely copied that screen 5 times over. It's dull.

Last little irk is the backgrounds. While there are subtle differences between what terrain can be passed through and what terrain is solid, it's too subtle. The background and platforms need to be much more defined so that players can easily identify what terrains mark a solid barrier and which ones don't. The light colour difference just doesn't do it for me.

Lastly, I think monsters should provide some drops. There are certain stretches of levels that have no jars whatsoever and there could certainly be some drops from monsters. Why not make it random? Like a certain percentage chance that a monster or jar drops items.

It's a good game, but I think the flaws take away from the experience a tad.

That was a good review, thanks for the helpful feedback. I agree with most of what you said, so I'll keep these things in mind when I go to work on the next one.

Pretty fun. Compelling.

I've rather enjoyed this so far; it's a simple interface but it works.
The slow walking speed (or maybe the large distances) bothers me.

However, I'm stuck. I need a burn spell and... I've explored everywhere.
There are grey cupboards/lockers that I cannot do anything with. How do I open them?

ryoshenron responds:

There's a big plant you can climb up in the plains. Go to the top of that and into the doorway at the top. This will bring you to a place with plant buildings. If you've already beaten the first boss, you can keep going to the left from there and enter a cave. You get an explosion spell at the end of that cave which you can burn down that orange vine with.
