Reviews for "Hippolyta"

Disappointed

I was pretty excited to check this game out once i saw the graphics and heard the great audio. However, i really hate to say it but the gameplay fell short by a mile. Hippolyta shows us that though graphics and audio are nice, gameplay is what counts. It's just like a flashy movie with stunning effects but 0 substance (like most Michael Bay movies).

I got tired of the game after about 10 minutes, if that. Though i definitely thought it was visually great, and that is mostly why i gave it an 8. Keep trying, just next time please dont make a game that is simply composed of pressing a button to react to an obstacle, its overdone and not particularly fun.

Pretty good

The annooyance of having to start over every gameplay was already stated many times before, but never gets old.

Also, it's bad how you have to bash the buttons at some points to get a reaction from the toon, as keeping another button pressed doesn't work (maybe it's cuz I'm already keeping the dash button all the time huh?) and I don't know why I bought every armor upgrade and nothing is showing, nothing at all! Not like I care, booby bouncing is great as it is, she doesn't look so badass with that ugly helmet as I can see in the medal...

A very strong but also flawed game

Hippolyta is a fairly simple game but the dynamics are sound and the presentation is fantastic. The graphics are crisp and detailed and the art direction is solid, though it would've been nice to see some variation in the backgrounds as the game progressed. The sound is quality, though it can get repetitive. In the case of the sound the repetition serves a purpose, warning you of the obstacles ahead. There are some major flaws however, the first being that there is no ability to select which level you want to play. If you want to play the fourth level, you have to play through the other first to get to it even if you've beat it previously. The single largest flaw is the terrible stylized slo-mo that kicks in whenever you kill an enemy. It hinders the gameplay tremendously as it essentially makes the game lag deliberately and was the primary reason that I died throughout the game. Even with these flaws the game is well worth your time and with many unlockable modes and armor you can spend hours playing it.

Bouncing boobs. I mean, addictive.

Great voice-over acting on all counts. I especially enjoy the RAHRWHRMRMF every time the horse jumps over a hoplite. The music is awesome too, and suits the game well.

The concept is overall simple and effective, not much to comment on that. It's a bit annoying to have to figure out what the hell you're supposed to do when facing a new threat, but thankfully there's not too many possibilities. Shield, jump, duck, speed up or, my personal favourite, throw a javelin...it's all you need.

The sound warning system helps, though at times it turns the game into Simon Says. "WATCH OUT! I'M RRREADY! WHERE ARE YOU GOING? ARCHERS! SWCHWOOP SCHWOOP SCHWOOP" AKA "shield, jump, javelin, shield". It's very satisfying when you pull it off, but this is also where the sometimes stiff controls screw you over big time. You jump over a couple of logs and you've been warned by the usual arrow sounds, but when the time comes to whip out that shield she sometimes refuses to save her own rack.

The lag is also annoying. I don't know too much about gamemaking so I can't say whethet this is something that "should have been solved" but it does put a bit of a damper on this game's otherwise great appeal.

Oh, and God thanks for the R button working before the voice goes "Wait, that's not how it happened!" Repetitive catchphrases are a major turn-off even if they're hilarious the first times (they are) and I'm glad they could be skipped.

Needs checkpoints or shorter levels

Other than the title this was pretty good.
