Reviews for "Next Action Frog"

Too buggy to be fun

Basic platformer with lots of bugs to make it not any fun. Things like the clipping when jumping at the corner of a ledge and falling through the world because you can walk through solid blocks. Also when you beat a level and it has the "press net key" dialog up enemies can still kill you. Multiple times.

sorry

the keys keep sticking

needs a lot of work

You get 3 points cuz i like the idea and the level designs were good... you only get 3, however, because this game seemed more intended on driving the player to break something or hurt someone.

It is one thing to add an element to make the game harder, but its another to leave in flaws that could not possibly go unnoticed.

1. Touching the SIDE of a block in midair was the same as hitting a ceiling, so you would go straight down if you didn't get it perfect. I can understand if your off by a lot allowing that to remain, but if you are maybe 1 pixel too short? That's just unnecessary frustration.
2. The hit box for the blades was incredibly inaccurate... You had to pretend that the blades actually stood out about 2 pixels on all sides for an accurate boundary.
3. The final thing was actually very minor... in the level which first introduces fire waves where you have to drop down into the safe spots, there is a bug which makes the sides of the blocks non-existent. In other words, you just walk off as tho there's nothing there. I fell through the map multiple times because of it on a few different levels.

I highly suggest fixing those if you want your game to be playable without the absurd amount of frustration involved... I am a very non violent person, and i wanted to push the neck of someone into their skull with my foot by level 26 (which is where i stopped)

Despite how critical I am, I would say don't give up on this. Just fix the bugs and I think the game will be really fun!

Simply Frustrating

You make reference to mario speedruns - people who do those spend months practicing those games. Do you really think people will put that much effort into simply beating your game? I would also like to point out that in Mario, you know where elements are - you do not fall down when hitting thin air, and you do not get raped by blades with invisible edges.
800-1000 deaths should not be taken as a sign that your game is addictive, but that a) some people are just amazingly OCD(I myself do not believe I will stop playing Bayonetta untill I have pure platinumed nonstop climax mode) and b) your game is just a lot harder than you think, especially if you believe it's possible to do losing only 30/10 lives.
Balancing is a HUGE part of game design, and since your game is completely frustrating and doesn't shine on graphics, sound or original gameplay, it deserves nothing more than a shitty rating.
If you want to get that up to maybe a 7 without too much effort, improve collision detection, find better sounds, and come up with some better medals. As it stands, this game is basically crap.

Flawed controls and shotty hit detection

Next Action Frog's hit detection is decidedly flawed, making it far too easy to be killed even when you know what you're planning to do. There is so much potential, but 10 minutes later I found my fingers aching from attempt after attempt to jump around an obstacle just perfectly enough to not clip a bird or get knocked down because I wasn't far enough to the right. The heart's in the right place, but it's downright wonky to control.
