Reviews for "Big Pixel Racing"

its pretty good

i like this game. the visuals are nice & its not 2 laggy. it does get repetative, though. and i dont like the fact that there are only 3 different weapons. otherwise good job.

Not bad, but unnecessarily hard.

I could have really enjoyed this game, and in fact, unless there's a huge surprise in store, I got pretty close to completing it before I finally found it too tiresome.

It wasn't the design. Nor the music. Nor even the way that being tapped around a bit (in the early stages, sneezing seemed to do the trick) would have you spinning like a top. No, it was the fact that the game was AGONIZINGLY SLOW AND JERKY on my system, so I couldn't steer the car with any degree of accuracy. This becomes more crucial in the races with Big Dog, during which you must (justifiably) collect any and all power-ups that you possibly can, especially speed mushrooms. It was almost pure chance whether or not I would end up five, ten or thirty degrees off-course, because there was so little feedback as my view of the car jerked from one moment in time to another.

Perhaps my system isn't the best, but nor is it irredeemably awful; it's fine with other games, while this one had it purring like a contented cat. I can see that however you're rendering the tracks would be absolutely beautiful if my poor computer could cope with it! I'm willing to be charitable here, but it severely detracted from my appreciation of the game.

On another note, there's a fair bit of borrowing from Mario Kart 64, but I really don't mind that at all. I loved that game, especially the frustrating shrink-ray, and was actually sorry to see that I couldn't flatten my shrunken opponents.

petty good

it wasn't hard but it kept me busy for a little, loved the music

Fun little thing

This is one fun little racer. The interface is simply splendid. The graphics are quirky and the gameplay is very very smooth. it's actually very satisfying to just go over the tracks again and again. Alot of fun.

There's a huge mountain of potential in this waiting to erupt. I don't think you've quite explored just how far this game can be taken. Keep the interface. Keep the physics of the cars in tact, and keep the free driving around with traffic thing - I must confess I actually spent a lot of time just running around town aimlessly because of the splendid way the car drove.

But expand on everything else. I felt the upgrades were to sparse and the levels also were too similar. The weapons were useful to a certain degree. I like the bombs and how they weren't just your average sure fire missiles. One had to be skillful to actually use them and not have them backfire on yourself. But there were only 3 varieties of weapons and one variety of powerup. Think back to the rest of the 'battle racing' games before this one - or Mario Kart even. Absorb some ideas from there. Then with a little tweaking, you can also expand on the race length, making either more laps, or doing a non looping track, but a long one that takes the person through a much longer course. The problem with only making more laps, is that the track can be memorized fairly easily and though it does rise in difficulty due to the opponents beefing up, it doesn't become that hard because you already know where to go and where to speed and where to lay bombs.

Other things that can be added are also race modes perhaps - I actually love the idea of the truck racing at the end. Maybe add an elimination round or target practice round where the point is to use bombs to hit targets around the track. That one might be a bit of a stretch, but certainly something to think about.

I also think you could certainly spread out more interactivity around the main map. The upgrade shops and race locations are all good, but maybe some other shops. Maybe make a customising shop to change car features, accessory shops for both car and driver. Related to that, you could also think of making the 'upgrades' make a change to the car's appearance. That would be really neat.

This game is good as it is, but I can't help feeling that there's a lurking explosion of potential under it that is just waiting to be explored. A sequel is in order.

Good job.

Fun for a while

Fun game but
It needs more upgrades
Different kinds of cars
More weapons
More places where you can race
