Reviews for "Futility"

A pretty good platformer

A good platformer indeed!
The difficulty is sorta high in the first few levels, even when it's supposed to get the player warmed up and get used to the game. The fact that one hit means an instant kill was kinda of a bad idea. One could barely get to the boss fight with 2 or 3 lives, which meant instant Fail. Thank you for having the change the controls option. I personally prefer Z to jump and X to fire. The shield came quite handy during the fights against 2 bosses. Music was badass.
I give it a 8/10.

put some meadals on it

MEtals make everything better if were going to play a senseless game
we should get something out of it otherwise great game

jump != up key : minor wtf

Why oh why is jump not set to the up key?! Good game but this annoyed me.

Entertaining and challenging.

The game follows classic sidescrolling conventions. The character, while dull, is quickly embrassed due to the tight controls and cutsey art style. The game is genuinely challenging, a concept that is lost in most games these days. What I did find odd was the level design.

It is very vague, at time changing the topography of the level, which made it difficult to discern which direction to go. Even stranger were the top to bottom levels. One could easily jump off te edge and land onto the boss stage while avoiding the level's middle altogether.

The game is well done but not as difficult as it proposes. The bosses are difficult but never unbeatable. Even in the stages where multiple bosses are used together, learning the patterns will eventually lead to victory.

A by the book side scroll er with some interesting ideas like the constantly changing levels )it add a sense of awareness, denying players a chance to memorize the path to avoid threats.) and the shield mechanic. This little safety net adds strategy to the experience while extending the game time. A great game that manages to have good game play and decent difficulty.

What's best about it is that it never panders to the audience (as evident by the title). The game knows that most gamers go through other games like tissue: consuming rather than savoring. With its constantly increasing difficulty, good controls, and interesting boss battles, This is a shining example of what other games should strive for.

Futile... or Fruitful?

This is a game that just wants to make you feel like you'll never beat it, it wants you to put you in despair and make you want to come back for more until you beat it or even give up. Even the first level I had so much trouble in that it actually got aggravating, I could only reach up to Insanely Hard. While I blame it on mostly the controls which is probably the worst thing about this game. Other than that, the graphics; the level design; the music; the sound effects, are all outstanding. In fact, dieing is like the main part this game, and it can get repetitive, but it saves itself; (hardly) mainly cause of the platform changes every time you die. I also found myself occasionally jumping all the way down skipping the entire level to the boss stage... As it is one of the hardest flash games I have ever played, you'll soon get better and better at succeeding and failing. Not perfect, but it is time-consuming enjoyment. A test of skill and will.

Pros: Outstanding presentation
Top notch graphics and sound
Boss stages are insane
Platform changes after death
Power-ups (Notably SHOOP DA WHOOP)
Enemy designs

Cons: Controls are horrible and can make the game more frustrating
Platforms are a little repetitive
Aiming issues
