This is onne of the most beautiful games ever.
Such a passionate story, with such depth of emotion. I played this 2 years ago, and I couldn't believe how much it tapped into my emotion, and here I am playing it again two years later (for the medals) and I still feel that same exact sense. You connect with his loneliness, and hope that he can find some peace. And then you meet his loved one, and you feel the sense of happiness she brought him. The teamwork they had, and they mutual connection between them. You can feel his love for her.
And then you blindly stumble upon her death. And....you're speechless. You don't want to believe it, and you don't want to continue, the obvious statement of what he was feeling. And you can feel it through him. Just standing still motionless, while you're putting together what just happened. And you want to go back, but you know you can only go forward. As you slump down the the exit, you feel like you're leaving her behind. You know you can't come back, and it's already done and over with. And she's gone. Forever.
You continue on, feeling his sadness, and loneliness. As he dreadfully continues on his path, doing whatever he needs to to overcome his obstacles. In hope that he may find some inner peace somehow. Somewhere. And you get to the last level, a moment of mass mental exertion. Putting all his mental force into overcoming this huge gap. To get past his obstacles, and reach the exit. I believe it can be conceived as a metaphor for all the mental flow going on in his head, that he his pushing out, because of all these emotions, just trying to get through, and get past it.
And listening to that final commentary at the end just lines the icing on the cake. Slowly, and carefully, aligning every subtle detail, and concluding the story, to which there is no end. And no hope. He is forever alone. (No meme-pun intended.) And he comes to realization, that now he has absolutely nobody. The last person he lets his emotions out to, has finally left him for the last time. And now he's forever barren in his own little world. His confined, solitary room. Forever. Without someone to talk to. Without the shrink. Without Kathryn. Forever.
And that. Is what makes this such a great game.
