Reviews for "Metal Gear Koopa Ep 01"

Well done!

This is suprisingly faithful to MGS and the added style of Mario and all the humor thrown in has made this a very unique and fun thing to watch. I really hope you continue making these as I'd like to see the rest, or at least highlights of MGS in this form. The sprite work and animation was smooth and the music and sound effects went perfectly. Keep up the great work! :D

TehShaester responds:

Well thank you for your input :)

I really did try to stay as true as possible to both universes, if I went too far one way or the other it wouldn't have worked out as well. It's all about balance. And don't worry, after a good amount of feedback comes in I'll start production on future episodes.

It's good...

...but it's missing something. I don't mind the text, but the action is a little on the slow side. Some suggestions:

1) less pushing of space (though I appreciate not being rushed to read text, YMMV).
2) More action!
3) try to stick a boss in each episode.
4) bigger scene/screen please! I have poor vision and it hurts my eyes to watch this in 1152x864.

That's it. I have given more suggestions to others rated at a similar level. This is good, make moar!

TehShaester responds:

1] I'm not sure what you mean by this, so you'll have to elaborate ^^;;
2] Trust me, future episodes will have plenty more action scenes.
3] The reason there isn't a boss battle in this one is because this first episode is meant to set the scene and introduce us to the world and do a little foreshadowing. From Ep 02 on there are going to be one or two major encounters per episode for a total of (Hopefully) 10 episodes telling the whole adapted story of MGS 1.
4] Yeah, I now realize that 450 x 300 is a little small and I think I'm going to increase it to the Flash default of 550 x 400 for the next episode, adding an extra 100 pixels each way. But for now, you can expand the movie with the little button in the title bar, next to the yellow "x" button.

Thank you for your comments/suggestions.

its good but

its good but id say change the dialoge for speach voice acting on this woul;d of given it an amazing 10/10

Its alright

Just enough in the first episode to keep me interested, but I think the biggest problem is that it moves really, really slow. The dialogue is sort of bland and boring and doesn't seem like its quite there yet. The pace of the flash moves really slow, even if I do spam space to help progress the dialogue screen, but there really is not a whole lot happening between dialogues to keep my attention. The sprite animations are smooth thus far, so that's going to be no problem for the next one. But as of right now, this seemed more like a trailer than the first episode of a series. Will look forward to the next episode. Good luck.

well...

I'm not going to assume you're lying when you say this is your first time animating with flash but I pretty sure I've seen a mock trailer of the same name of this parody a couple years ago.
(Just don't use that line in your authors comments it gives you nothing but sympathy votes and IMO that's just sad.)

I wanna review this fairly but from what I remember the trailer I saw of this was way better then an extended series. It was a brief presentation of the concept of Mario and metalgear mix.

But unlike Super Mario bros Z , (which this is probably inspired by) where AlvinEarthworm uses the theme of dragonball z, you have to rely on the metal gear story more then it needs to so you're basically showing us metalgear again it's not appealing, and not even a parody.
You're not doing anything original copying the dialogue word for word and replacing keynames with mario themes won't cut it for me.

So concept is ok but it doesn't have enough to fuel a series. But don't let this stop you you look like you put alot of work into this so just try to change the dialogue and add something more to it because It's boring to people who have played metal gear and confusing to people who haven't.

TehShaester responds:

That trailer you speak of was done by my original partner, Glukom. Originally he was staged to animate and I was staged to write and sprite, alongside the number of spriters from Pixeltendo who helped back then. Sadly it fell through, until now.

As for the dialogue.. well, since it'll be a little while before I move on to anything for a second episode, I'll work on a more original progression while keeping faithful to source material as I can. Perhaps I stayed a little too close to the Metal Gear side of the fence in this episode. Thank you for the suggestion, it's appreciated.
