Reviews for "Dungeon Cleaner"

Meh.

The controls, again, are a bit irritating.
The dynamite really needs to have a larger AOE. In the level where you have to destroy the green block to drop down, I must have wasted five sticks trying to land it just in the right place. One stuck in the wall just above the block, one passed -through- the block a bit and exploded harmlessly. Very annoying.

pretty cool

but I don't like the controls and I can't get past the safe/gate gameplay isn't really good

Could be addictive...

But the controls need work. It'd be easier to jump using the W key and to be able to shoot from behind while running. I also got stuck at certain points where a precision jump was needed; nobody likes falling down and having to climb to the top of the screen again just to complete one small task.

A few flaws

This game is a great concept and addictive. However, there are a few flaws that just make it no fun at certain points. These are mostly design issues that have no business being in any game.

First, the dynamiting system. If you are going to have a system of secret passages that are nearly impossible to find without casual dynamiting, don't make dynamite such a finite resource. That, and dynamite is impossible to throw with any accuracy (or so it seems) so even if you know exactly where a passage is, you miss it most of the time. If dynamite is going to be a key mechanic of the game, make it easier to control and less of a rare resource. Praying for a dynamite drop that you usually won't get gets old quickly. In a Dungeon crawling explory type game, not being able to search for secret passages because you ran out of dynamite after missing that wall five times is annoying.

The jumping also is a little iffy. Certain jumps are just hard to make because you need split second timing. In a dungeon crawling/exploring game, getting to a point with a tough jump you have to keep re-trying is annoying. Difficulty should be based on the game being hard, not on having jumps you can't figure out how to make because the jumping mechanic isn't intuitive.

Other than that, the game is awesome. If these flaws are fixed, this would be one of the best games on newgrounds. But those flaws make things no fun.

Good game.

Looking down, I see no-one with a good, level-headed review that explains the criticism. So that's where I step in. First things first, yes, the controls are bad. Not "OMGWFT?!" bad, but they could definitely use work. The main issue is with jumping and climbing. I feel like a contortionist every time I try to jump for a ladder and grab it. I also often accidently press "up" instead of jumping. It would also be good to be able to turn around using the mouse, or to be able to move backwards while shooting, but those are minor.

The secrets in this game are good, as they are not perfectly hidden, and always give a clue, while sometimes still being devilishly twisted.

The weapon system is fairly balanced. Ammo for early weaponry becomes next to free, while the cutting edge costs a fortune to maintain, and the damage levels always balance out. One thing I would like to complain about is the DE, which deals 40 damage per gold, while the uzi (deals only slightly less dps) deals over 150 damage per gold spent. Some rebalancing in that regard might be useful.

All-in-all this game is fun to play, at least for a while. I have yet to complete it, but will probably come back to it.

If you think seven is a low score, know that I believe that 5/10 should be given to average games.
