Reviews for "Halo: Orions Spartans III"

well...

Was expecting MUCH more but, none the less its was good.

Enzer0 responds:

Sorry i let you down :(

If I could Understand... then I'd love it.

Animation was great, and the voice acting not bad..
I feel I could actually like this if it made any sense what so ever.

I know there are like three other episodes, but seriously, this has absolutely no direction or time-line or anything... How is someone supposed to relate if its just a collection of random scenes. The random scenes are done well, but you need to actually follow one plot line and not jump around. Lots of great ideas, so just pick ONE... and make a story out of it. You know.. they go here, do this, then this happens, they win... YAY! Can do multiple episodes with one plot line too. And if it's depth your worried about.. i would much rather watch a simple flash that makes sense, than a crazy one that is beyond understanding.

Enzer0 responds:

There is some sense - but ep 3 is a major summary.

what?

It's not that bad. Why manga style for Halo? I don't feel any American thing in that movie.

Enzer0 responds:

Name another style? Marvel? Dc? - Or pehaps you'd prefer a johnny bravo style?
Manga/ Anime is consistant - thats why i use it.

Good, but...

Before I get into details, I want to mention that I watched this thinking it was something else entirely. Not knowing it was part of a series, I won't detract from the score because I didn't know what was going on. With that said, here's what I think.

The voice acting is the stand-out of this flash, better than most on Newgrounds. The visuals are well drawn as well, however the animations were too stiff. It's odd to think that you would draw every detail and barely animate them other than "bobbing" when they walked and lip-syncing. But, my real issue here is with the Spartans themselves. First off, they're the top tier in military training; obedient and loyal to a fault. Even if left stranded, they wouldn't hate the corps because they believe they are part of something bigger than themselves. Secondly, as in another post, they're far too young. Believe it or not, Master Chief in Halo was in his early forties. Also, they're overall appearance doesn't fit their characters, as they would all probably have short hair and scars of some sort. My biggest issue however, is with the main character. He keeps mentioning that he has a family; I assume that this was before he became a Spartan. This is horribly incorrect. Their training to become Spartans began at the age of six and they have never left the field of battle since.

However, this is your take on science-fiction. I'm not saying your interpretation is wrong, but that's how I feel.

Enzer0 responds:

I've said this many times in my response to other comments. These are human people genetically enhanced to slight degree. Basically they are not Spartans even though I refer to them as Spartans.

The details are in all three episodes stating this. Read into it. Thanks for your honest review. :)

Hmm...

Well I enjoyed the voiceacting, animation and overal graphics. All of those were quite proffessional, more so for flash. Also the story seemed quite interesting. All of those points made for the positive side of the rating.

On the negative though... the storyline is hard to follow. The chronology is messed up by flashbacks, so the viewer might have serious trouble telling whats going on. Also the dialogues, scenes and characters seem overdramatized. Don't get me wrong, drama can help alot in setting the mood for the viewer, but... if its constant drama it looses its point, the movie needs a few less dramatic scenes atleast for the viewer to 'relax' and which would give contrast to the key scenes. Also the dialogues could try to be more clear on whats going on... although again that would mean lowering the dramatic tone.

Also on another note... it seems the main character is becoming close to being a Mary Sue type. Obviously towering over the others in characterization, psychology and the moral dimension... I admit I was starting to feel annoyed that he was getting so much focus when not seeming overly interesting as a character. That and the constant repetition of the whole 'family love' cliche.

But yes, overal the movie is not horrible and the series is definitely above average, but sadly more so due to graphics, plot setting, animation and voice acting, than dialogues, characters or scene execution. Which is no way me saying its horribly bad, but I expected more from those aspects.
