Reviews for "Cuboy Ep.3"

Fun!

I've thoroughly enjoyed your cuboy series, but I have to say this recent episode is a bit lacking when compared to your earlier episodes. I'll go ahead and say your artwork is acceptable considering the highly stylistic approach of the series, but there IS room for improvement.

When I first stumbled across the series I thought the hook would be the artwork, but I soon learned the series' writing would be the one grabbing ahold of my attention. Being a sucker for british comedy, I absolutely loved the series' surreal humor. Ironically, the writing, specifically, the slow pacing of the plot, was what made me flinch.

Not to say the series hasn't improved. I can definitely feel the effort poured into this beloved cartoon but perhaps there was a bit too much effort. I read a review with similar critique and I do believe I'm repeating what most have said, but I do have to implore, once again, to keep the script simple and fresh.

Despite what I've said, the jokes were absolutely hilarious! I laughed at every one of them. Yet, when the cartoon actually tried to make progress with its plot, I couldn't help but stare at the screen trying to prevent my mind from numbing. The dialogue wasn't terribly uninteresting, but I felt as if it didn't have that pizazz that once had me craving for more Cuboy. Hopefully, I've said something useful, and I'd like to hope episode 4 will be closer to perfection.

Cheers!

this is a lovely review, thanks! i'm glad you still enjoy the series, but i'm even more glad you can provide useful critique. i think agree about the story- it was mainly an attempt to get the pacing of the cartoon to be snappier and din't really want to lose the surrealism of the old one but i think that HAS happened a wee bit.

anyway we live and learn, and learning we most certainly are doing. hope you keep bearing with us while we see what works and what doesn't. :)

nice

liked the animation and it was a little funny

dident like the hurmor

verry good animateion concept etv. but i realy did not like the humor

Hilarious

Your overall style is amazing. The artwork was phenomenal, and your comic timing and content were both so fresh. I really enjoyed this. Thanks fellas.

Kind of dull really.

I thought the whole idea just wasnt a good idea. The graphics were bloody brilliant and the transitioning effects were very enjoyable. What made me sad was that there was obviously a WHOLE lot of work put into this including the ending song... it almost seems as if all that was just a waste though because it just isnt very fun to watch. The humor is kind of boring. I am sure there are many people who would enjoy this type of humor and I wish you the best of luck... but seriously make shorter toons! Dont put a whole lot of work into one feature toon when it is a FLASH MOVIE. Not very many people will see it anyway.

Voices 8/10

The voices were all alike... but they were done very well. All the characters were very strange and kooky and it was like an acid trip with cubes. A little bit weird for my taste, but the acting was great for what it was trying to be. Good job on the quality voices.

Animation 10/10

I thuroughly enjoyed each transitioning effect and the way every scene was set up. Like on a cube was the main idea right? You even had some shadowing effects in there. I did notice a lot of low quality lines used for the faces, however, because you zoomed in on the lines they looked a bit poor. I have no real complaints except for that. You guys have real animating quality and talent. Keep it up in future cartoons!

Plot 2/10

Ugh, this was the main fault. I hated the plot. It was so boring and really made no sense. Ok so he wanted to join the circus.. and his boss supported him and.. ok now im lost. I think you should have made it a bit more clear on WTF was going on. I enjoyed the main idea of cuboy, however and liked some of the gags like the spider down the throat, the two in the bathtub, and the policeman.

Good luck with your future cartoons.

EdibleCastle responds:

thanks for the review. I agree the story wasn't really tight enough. It's something we're still trying to get right. Although it did make sense (if you listen to the dialogue) it just isn't simple/efficient enough.

One thing you seem to overlook is that we're not just making 'flashes'. We're making cartoons and although of course the majority of our audience is on newgrounds, we don't plan our cartoons with it solely in mind.

If you want shorter cartoons try out our edible castle series, but I doubt you'd like the humor in those either.

Cheers,
-Will
