Reviews for "Sinking Island"

I like it, name fits perfectly
The drums at the way beginning need to be a bit louder, but it's fine where it is at well .
Good work! :D

I was thinking you should raise the volume of the bongos seconds before reading what you said about them.

I'm sure there's a sweetspot a bit louder. As it is, it almost sounds like chaotic percussion because it might take a while to realize there are bongos playing.

NGADM Review:

I'm not going to write in length here. This is a very good piece in most regards, particularly orchestration wise. The melodies, harmonies and chord progressions you use are very very good. They're catchy, upbeat and very well implemented. The instruments that play them are also very good, and of a pretty decent quality. These two aspects come together to create an overall very high quality piece

Unfortunately, this is kinda ruined by the mixing, which isn't that great. In some cases, the instruments tend to overpower each other rather than come together as a whole. EQing is pretty decent, but could also use some work.

Also, the piece tended to get a bit repetitive and boring as it progressed, which made for a pretty tedious experience towards the end.

So overall, a good piece, with some minor drawbacks which you could fix quite easily.

This is an incredible improvement from your previous submission, in every aspect. Better harmonies, a great main melody and whatever you wish to call that background synth thing that plays something that's both a melody and a chord progression (seriously that was awesommmme). I really enjoyed the intro as well - the combination of the video game-ish melody and the straight kick drum at 0:13 is really quite hypnotic. And while you do have loooong melody lines with a lot of variations on the main theme like you did in the previous song, it feels a lot more consistent and meaningful here.

I really like transitions like 1:42 as well - you spread the sparse and the intense parts nicely so that you never exhaust the listener too much, despite the song being very high frequency oriented so to speak. The sounds are pretty neat - you've got an airy and open mix that properly showcases every synth you've got. Drums sound thick and kickin' too.

Two and a half minutes is about the point where the song starts to feel very tiring and I tend to skip it at that point - after that you just go on with the same themes you've used previously with little variation anyway so there's no point in listening further really.

So yeah overall a big leap forward since last time!

NGADM 2 and stuff.

Fairly dynamic, some cool themes, pretty synths, decent mixing, although I found the entire track sounded a little... back there... Dunno how to explain, it all sounded slightly muffled to me. I like the overall theme of the track, but it didn't really seem to go anywhere, and was perpetually stuck in the mood it started in, which I think was due in no small part to the repetitive drum part, which IMO had a huge impact on the feeling of repetitiveness.

Decent theme, easy on the ears, although fairly forgettable IMHO. 7/10.
