A few months ago ashford pride made a movie with a foreboding title. It was called "Awesome Grounds".
Well ladies and gentlemen, that's might as well what this site should be called (at least right now), with the top row on the front page slot dedicated to an "awesome" movie and an "awesome" parody, an "awesome" t-shirt in the newgrounds store, and pretty much every "awesome" movie in the top 100, along with han's "awesome's creed".
I can't go to newgrounds with seeing something not about egoraptor or his coveted video game parody series. It makes me wonder sometimes if pursuing anything but half-assed cartoons making mildly funny observations about video games laced with profanity is even worth it. Truly, they are what bring the masses of 13-year olds to this site, and thus increases traffic and competition in the internet world. But you have to ask yourself, with this sort of two-bit audience increasing in numbers, are they really interested in watching anything else?
I understand that it's a dog eat dog world in the online entertainment business, and to compete you have to pretty much put up content that a majority of internet browsers would click on. This includes either women or video games. Things they already know they want. And that's all they want. They sign up, watch more, and come back and do it again later. They're trained to know that what they want is easily accessible and is promoted all over the site.
Original content is often shuffled off to the bottom of the page, or never gets any attention to begin with. Now comes into play the whole 'they won't click on it unless there's a boob for the icon', etc etc. That's because they've been fashioned to think that way.
I'm not saying i have all the mysterious answers to the way people's minds work. But this much is true - if all people click on are breasts and video game icons, and you give them breasts and video game icons, you're not pushing the envelope.
Newgrounds is the epitome of user-generated content. We already have a massive advantage over youtube in the fact that making a cartoon involves so much more creativity than snappily editing your webcam footage. So instead of 200 cartoons coming out every minute, we have 200 cartoons coming out every day. That gives someone a better chance of breaking out and being discovered for his hard work, and a reward for a job well done.
But in the same way that viewers are trained that they don't have to go out of their way to avoid original content they would otherwise enjoy, authors are becoming more and more disenchanted with their personal creations and are turning to nerd culture icons and cheap tactics to get viewers.
I can't tell you how many animators I have spoken to that have shunned their own creations in favor of sub-pop culture parody and disjointed scripts sprinkled with toilet humor and profanity. a cartoon catering to everyone who's forgotten what cartoons are all about. And here we are shoving away everything about cartoons that was originally appealing and magical, because we're pretty much forced to.
I'm not pointing the finger at any one person here. I think it's part of the bigger picture - bigger than Newgrounds, too. But if people really care about the future of cartoons and animation, we wouldn't be seeing this kind of blatant favoritism.
People will find what they want if they want it. They don't need to be spoon fed it all.

I agree with you that NG and the cartoon industry as a whole is in a bad shape and getting worse by the minute, but I disagree with your approach. Showing a lame parody of a parody won't help getting your point across because most people here don't even understand what you're trying to say. The proof is in the reviews, most people are writing reviews without even reading your Author Comment, which is a shame, your Author Comment is brilliant! Instead of trying to rub the crap that these people love so much in their face in an attempt to force them to see that they love crap, make an aweso... er... an amazing animation! Ignore all the "meet n' fuck" games and the video games parodies for a minute and take inspiration on people like Adam Phillips or BarfQuestion! The masses are dumb, they will never disappear no matter how much you try to enlightem them, but neither will we people that enjoy well made cartoons. As long as you animators make good cartoons we will be around.
One more thing, I'm guessing this is not your only account right? You probably have another one where you keep all your quality flashes. Could you pass me your other account name? I want to see the other videos you've made, I bet there's lot of good stuff there and I won't tell anyone it's you if you don't want me to ;)

However, i disagree with some of your points. Granted, the Awesome series is awesome, involves video game icons and sexual references, and is probably mostly aimed towards the young teen audience, but this site still does have some amazing flashes without those. The main reason they don't get as much recognition as the cartoon parodies is because its harder for them to do what they do, which is tell a story and make a message. However, if the animator is in fact able to get that going in the right way, the flashes produced on this site are extremely high rated. Best examples are the 'There she is' series and 'The Composer'. They don't involve anything that you are ranting about, but are among the highest rated on the site. However, the look like they took much more work to make than egorapters 'metal gear awesome.' Which is also up near the top (not putting him down, I love his work, but in an animation comparison, the other two are much much better graphic and content wise). So Newgrounds is not 'Awesome Grounds' just yet.
Anyway, good message to animators, however, i think this problem you found is not as big of a deal as you make it out to be. You target kirbopher and rina-chan, yet they were two of the originators of the parodies.This is in fact 'Everything by Everyone', so you will get parodies and game characters in flashes. Some people still enjoy random, video-game parodies and some like original stuff. Some enjoy making both of these. Its all about style and taste.
I hope what you mean by what you typed, is that you don't want animators to convert themselves to a lower standpoint than they are by ripping off characters and dead jokes. And I hope that you didn't make this video just to bash other artists work, cause if you did, then you are just plain selfish and ignorant, but I'm pretty sure that's not what you did not mean.

But hey, thats NG now. A handful of known animators and a handful of voice actors. Probably won't change. This is E-Hollywood sir! The more b lown up you are, the better and brighter you seem (whether you merit it or not) and outshine any aspirers.
That isnt to say we don't see the occasional gem from some unknown, but even though I like Ego's work, it is kinda obnoxious to see Egoraptor spammed everywhere. zzzzomgzomg. my personal favorite is Utah and AlvinEarthworm, but I also enjoy Harry.
Theres tons of reeeeeally great flashes I really enjoyed buuut, as you might have guessed - they aren't plastered all over NG so I have no idea who they are :D Even if they rox ur sox =P
So, yes, toilet humor and profanity will be the way to go in parodies - things are this way. Go with it or don't =/

i really hope ure not an outside thinker because a bunch of people think the same things you do about newgrounds and about everything else how they are reusing things because they sell. but really it comes down to thats life and u just gotta deal with it and if u create something very orginal it should appeal to a crowd big or small but what the mass majority of what people want right now is what ure talking about. it might change, it might not but really just suck it up and make a video that draws a crowed because a movie is considered good if a majority of ppl like it not just free thinkers like ureself. i sure hope that the jokes and the way movies are done will be changed in the future but right now its fine. its life it happens everyday man.
