Reviews for "Lower Norfair (2:39)"

:D

I was just playing this the other day. :) Some of the samples sound pretty old-school. You might want to add a really subtle reverb, it might give more of an environment to your songs. It depends on which song though, I can see if you were trying to go for a more retro feel here. I like it though, keep it up!

WinTang responds:

Reverb is definitely a good idea. I did aim for the retro feel, but that doesn't mean it can't get fancier :)
Thanks again!

Mmm... Metroid.

Such a great game. I kept my old SNES just to continue playing this game.

May I be the first to say, that was freakin' MCAWESOMEBURGER material.

Now all I gotta do is hope for a Maridia remix. *crosses fingers*

Sure, I could do one of my own...
but then I wouldn't be surprised. :D

FIFEN AND MCAWESOMEBURGER!

WinTang responds:

Yay!! MCAWESOMEBURGER!!
Dude, I thank you, and I've been contemplating more SMetroid reissues, Crateria was top of the list, but I might do Maridia (which has 2 tunes, but I'm assuming you mean that melancholic one) first now, to kiss your ass :)

as usual, well done!

I never had the chance to play the old-school metroid games much, but I do recognize the tune from the gamecube version. The vocal synths are an authentic touch, adding to the whole metroid-like atmosphere. Overall... what can I say? This is a stylish rendition of a classic metroid theme, with a heaping pile of funk thrown in for good measure. It sounds like there was a good deal of effort put into this, and, as far as I can tell, it is essentially flawless. awesome work.

WinTang responds:

Thanks att.perf.! I don't know the GameCube version, but from the SNES one the vocal synths are the only thing directly copied - ironic that you would point them out as the authentic touch... *grin*
Thanks a lot, your review made me feel GEWD!

Catchy Remix

I played Metroid a lot, but I can't say I remember this song. Is Super Metroid different to Metroid I wonder?
Anyway, this is catchy and sounds like authentic video game music. The beat is great and the 12/8 tempo gives it a lot of juice!
I love the choir hits descending sequence, and the square arp after (come to think of it, I always like your square arps)..
Having no conscious memory of the original, it's hard to tell if you've veered from the classic version a lot, but what I can say, is that this sounds cool!
Keep it up!

BTW have you been into video game remixes for long? When I scan through your song list, I don't see any others.

WinTang responds:

Hi padman! Thanks for the review again, always a pleasure :)

Yeah Super Metroid is different. More famous, I believe - and it's an awesome game too. The music is awesome and the bosses are great (and quite difficult). The final battle with Mother Brain turns into a scene that is actually moving. Try to get your hands on it, you won't regret it.

The difference between this and the classic is quite big though. If you're curious, go here:

nintendo/snes/smetnor2.mid
That's actually one of the most accurate MIDI's I've ever heard, in both sound and score.

And no, I've barely done any video game song before, and now I've submitted two in three days :)
Only other one I have up is the Zelda-thing, which I think is kinda nice but only plays through the left channel for some reason.
I may do more in the future, but there are only a few games with music that even remotely interests me.

I'm curious what you'll think of the Super Mario Dungeon though, I really fucked that one over baaad :)

good tune kid

not bad remix that wintang, i certainly remember it from the game, the speeds threw me off a little but it does ring a definate bell. again your productions gud as always, crisp and clean, with no beats out of sync. you definately have a flair for capturng music wheter it's a remix or original, keep up the good up and for your efforts you get a fifen innit.

WinTang responds:

Hey! I hadn't responded to this yet.
It's not that hard to have no beats out of sync considering I use Impulse Tracker, which means I have to make a real effort if I want something to be OUT of sync...
I'm glad you liked the production, it was a bit of a puzzle, but I'm pretty satisfied myself with how it came out.
Thanks for your input and the fifen!
