Lovely game, brutal jumps.
The Armed With Wings series is gorgeous - and Red Moon is no exemption, with the eerie red moonlight on a landscape of black silhouettes. I skipped the opening dialog because the voiceovers were making me wince, but the sound is otherwise top notch. As far as I can tell thus far, you can't upgrade Eivana in any way, which is unfortunate, but her Red Moon super attacks are extremely cool looking, with rolling, rippling blasts of white fire against the stark red and black landscape. However, all things considered, this game has one major flaw - one which is shared by all three AWW games: jumping.
Jumping is brutal in this game. Eivana slides a little on landing, and the jumping mechanics are weirdly "floaty" like the gravity is somehow variable while you're airborne. I had trouble getting the wall jumps to work correctly; I'm not sure why, it just didn't seem to react the way I wanted. The real pain in the ass though is the sudden, vicious jump in difficulty: the game suddenly shifts from some side-scrolling sword-swinging action to aggravating, teeth-grinding instant-death-jump puzzles. If your jumps are even slightly off, get used to restarting the level. It's not my style of gaming and the curious jump mechanics makes it extremely hard. However, outside of that the game is just brilliant.
