Reviews for "A paedophile story"

hehe

best effort ive seen, but seriously, wtf?

wth funny y'know?

The message...

Is that rats are evil.

They spread the Black Death... but that didn't exterminate humanity as planned. So now they invade us from within, turning us all into pedos!

We must kill all the rats NOW!!! Before it's too late. D:

All pedophiles must die!

Although.. If pedophiles exist cause they were abused by other pedophiles as a child, who was the first pedophile? xd Its the chicken and the egg all over again.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!

That was wierd on so many levels.

Technically Amazing, Message a Bit Muddled

I'm not sure how I missed this one when it first came out; perhaps someone has been voting it up the rankings to get it attention? If that is the case, this flash does need some well-deserved attention.

First, your animation style is amazing. I can see the influence of animators who pushed the boundaries of abstract art, from classic animators like Bob Clampett to modern animators like John K. and Danny Antonucci. (There may be British animators I am missing, as it appears you are fron the UK.) But even though the influence of these animators is there, what you've done is used it to nurture your own unique style.

From a technical standpoint, there's not a single thing to find fault with. You've obviously mastered the craft of combining line artwork and flash skills. Both are integrated seamlessly. The use of music and sound effects comes off as highly professional. It's obvious that you and your studio know what you are doing.

The content of the flash is obviously controversial. And that the flash gets people to think about what might go on in the diseased soul of an individual is the hallmark of good art. Some people say that the message of art is subjective, and in the eye of the beholder. This piece is certainly open enough that the take-home message is subjective. Though certainly there are enough metaphors to give a hint of where you stand on the subject.

The one area I can see dispute with the flash is with your interpretation of the subject matter. There's a lot of debate regarding what makes a paedophile. Is it influenced by nature or nurture? The typical paedophile is not someone who was subject to abuse as a child. Physical and mental abuse is generally agreed to be something that is a learned behavior from adults. Sexual abuse tends to come from a different place. If the flash represents your personal attitude towards the subject, I can't help but feel that the wires are crossed. The ending is a good example of this. Does it show where you stand on the nature vs. nurture issue? Did you mean to say that the disease is on the inside and doesn't show on the outside? Was your point that kindness and empathy can change a soul? That's not entirely clear. The ambiguous ending does lead the viewer to debate the issue, which is not a bad thing. But it does also muddle the message. There's also a lot of personal hate and vindictiveness that comes through in the animation. That might be more unsettling than the subject matter itself.

My rating of 8 is based on the ultimate confusion of the message. It's fine if it is your personal viewpoint on the subject, but I don't know that it is a good representation on the consensus opinion of the subject and what makes one a paedophile. Based on the technical and artistic skills alone, this would be a 10.
