Reviews for "Grandpa RPG"

Nice try! GREAT IDEA!

Wow this game is just AWESOME!!!!
I mean, well......yeah it's pretty horrible, but the IDEA IS JUST SO COOL!!!!
You got an old guy that can do everything we can do - but he's OLD so he tires easily. AWESOME! Your action script skills are pretty good as others have pointed out and the idea's original! I don't really give a damn about the graphics (which fit very well with the general style of things), but you do need to get some order into this mess!

It seems the only way to travel is via the map button and once you do you either some monster kills ya or get to a training facility which ...um..kills ya. Even worse, there doesn't seem to be any kind of GOAL to the game.
What are you supposed to do? Where are you supposed to go?
Make a specific goal and balance the difficulty - enemies kill you almost instantly and leveling seems to take forever!

You've got some great idea's here like the map navigation system and the old dude's energy bar. Also loved how each specific stat went up in accordance with you actions - but you need to build an actual game around these elements or they won't be worth spit.
First of all, why not make a simpler game - with a specific goal (perhaps a platformer instead of an RPG) with the same elements, old dude that has to rest every once in a while. Also, try giving him simpler tasks than killing monsters.
How about just shopping, crossing the street, going up stairs...the options are limitless. Imagine a game were you have to leave your house buy some groceries and get back...since you're old you'll have to rest on benches strewn all across the sidewalks - but you can't take too long or night will fall and you'll get mugged!
I don't know - just brainstorming here - think of anything!!!

Basically what I'm saying is cool idea, but since you've tried to implement so many elements at once on your first game - it came out kinda messy.
Try to simplify things on your next try and you'll be learning how to make your games better as you keep making them.
It's a shame a great game like this gets such low scores just because you're only starting out and you don't have much experience.

If you need any more ideas\advice with the game you're welcome to message me. Thanks a lot from the game and hope to see more from you soon!

thanks for not hateing my game i have been working on it for about a month now and have really learned alot about action script while i have been making it. i was thinking about makeing an old lady at you house to tell you to do things and and talk about things to give it more of a point, right now im not really sure how to make it so you beat the game because if i do you could only fight each of the monster stages once and that wouldnt be very good seeing as you need them to train. the reason some of the monsters are so strong is that once you do get higher lvs the easier monster become very very easy. the stronger monsters require you to try to hit the buton as fast as youcan adding a little action to the game. which is an rpg may i add and most rpg's are slower game play.

but anyway thanks for kinda liking it.

not bad

pretty good

Not bad

Neat idea you have here. It'd be nice if the character could walk a little faster. I'd like to see other ways to level up too. After a while, it takes way too long to level up to the point where it won't do anything anymore for fighting the enemies. Maybe the ability to use other weapons than just fists would be good too. Keep at it.

Great for a first game.

Music and variations of music always helps.
Unique Idea for an rpg. I'd like to see an improved version sometime ^^
Maybe makeit so you walk left to get outside his house and left again to get to the park etc. The Map just feels odd ^^; Sorry about that but has potential indeed.

meh

nice idea and theory and good building blocks for a future game but the environments and animations could be alot better. but overall it is a good effort for being your first game. hope to see an edited or updated version.

Im going to really rework this game, get rid of the map and make some of the creatures weaker, and try to make a simple story that relates to him being a grandpa in some way so deffenatly check back soon because it will probably be a lot different in a week or so
