Reviews for "A Great Big Tree"

David Firthesque movie at its best

It is obvious that you have been inspired greatly, both in music, story telling and animation, by David Firth. The music, as you say, is made by the master, which makes the movie all the more enjoyable, but as with all things, the original master is always better than the ones that come after him :) It was a great movie, but I can't help but get the feeling that it would have been a 5/10 pointer if it had been David Firth doing the storytelling and animation as well. Some day you might be shuffling with David Firth over the title "worlds most artistic flash artist," but you're not there yet ;P

Peace.

idiot-monarch responds:

Yeah, Firth is definitely a huge inspiration. Obviously, the movie would be better if he had made it (I think that applies to any movie, really :P ), but being compared to him (even if he comes out on top) means a lot.

Thanks :)

two problems

one people sit on stumps and two i highly doubt that tree will grow again unless it is magic, once its down its down, mayby another tree will be planted in its place, but it will not be the same tree

idiot-monarch responds:

Valid arguments, but a bit besides the point of the movie. This works better than making a movie about a lizard and it's tail, or, God forbid, a human.

really good

Very impressive, animation was good, emotional and touching

idiot-monarch responds:

Thank you.

Sad and yet hopeful

Such a simple animation, and so powerful. Is it an alternate reality where trees can grow back from a stump, or is it our world, and the tree is engaging in wishful thinking? Is it a statement on hope, or just vainglory? Both answers are equally valid.

Well done.

idiot-monarch responds:

Which idea do you prefer? ;)

Thank you. Really. I'm extremely happy when someone actually chooses to think a bit about my work.

Wow...

Touching, new, experimental, Wow...
great work reminds me of the submachine games.

idiot-monarch responds:

I don't really see how it's similar to Submachine, except maybe for the audio.

Thanks anyway :D
