Reviews for "OT01: Out There"

Long time no see.

Gerkinman makes his come back with an all new advanced sprite-animation. More and more people are starting to use pixels like this with the new Advanced sprite-animation. Pretty cool Gerkinman, pretty cool.

Gerkinman responds:

Bandwagon ahoy!

Not bad

This is obviously gonna get judged on it's pixilated-ness... Although it wasn't the prettiest thing to look at it wasn't bad. I loved the music, reminds me of the good old days of megaman. I'll be interested to see how the series progresse, (not exactly sure what's going on at the moment...)

Cool and different but with a down side.

It looked great, had awesome well fitted music and had a nice retro feel to it.
The only reason it gets an 8 is because I found it hard to watch.
The backgrounds and the characters sorta blended together, making it confusing to decipher what was going on in some parts.
Still, very good otherwise.
TIP: Putting a black glow with a values of 1.5/2px, HIGH quality, and 1000% around the characters could help to separate the backgrounds and the characters, give it a go anyways.

Great idea, few minor flaws

I definitely find this to be great and using RushJet1's midi tracks are awesome.

2 things though... 3 actually.

1. Pixel style, as in back in 8/16 bit days... everything moved via pixels and could only handle so many color types. You had spotlights that moved too fluidly with straight edges going diagonally. They should've shifted into blocky edges during motion and not be transparent as well. You did this with a few objects.

2. As another reviewer put down, the story wasn't very clear. I got it sort of... that he was getting ready to go into space but... I wasn't sure. The emotions on the faces were a bit vague and not enough actual movement to defer the meaning of all their actions.

3. RushJet1 makes his stuff sound 8-bit style. So you should probably try to make your flash 8-bit as well. What you've made was 16/32 bit, almost. Like early PC games. That's all really.

Yessir.

I'm gunna have to agree with 45Percent on this one. The pixelation made it hard to make out objects to begin with, the fact that you make the characters similar to the background in their color scheming and design made it hard to watch. A contrasting color or shape would have been super awesome. The heads were good but the bodies just made it worse.

Good to see something out of brother.
