Reviews for "Fear Unlimited Arena"

to foxbird

this game is devil may cry inspired, he took devil may cry gameplay and turned it into a 2d flash game with original characters (and did it damn well i might add.).
if you want a story play the first game

all right

One of the thins tha contributed to your low score is that you couldn't turn right away. this got me killed ALOT! another thing is that it was pretty slow to go from one scene to the next.

Seriously guys...

First off, stop saying it's a rip-off of the Devil May Cry Series. It's a man that's killing deamons, which has been done in lore, game, and movies so many times that you have to just say "Fine. Demons make good enemies, so people use them." He uses blades AND guns? So did Van Hellsing. He has a 'Super Mode?' Mario jacks up on mushrooms to get his. Seriously guys...

Now for an actual review: The Graphics are pretty nice as always, without going absolutely overboard, which can just end up looking bad anyway. I found (Oh so many times) myself grooving to the music in my seat, so excellent marks there as well. Story wise...Well, there isn't one, but sometimes actions speak louder than words.
Combat is all that really matters in a game like this, and I can see there was some work put into it, but it has that God-awful pause mid-combo and at the end of them that continue to frustrate me and everyone else, according to reviews. I like the upgrade system, but you put too much faith in the average person's patience. The game itself is unbeatable without upgrades, no matter how bad-ass you are at avoiding an end to your combos. Sooner or later, the fail-safe that is the blocking feature will stop you if your weapons aren't pimped the hell out, and the health-bar and demon-forms both start out absolutely pathetically weak.
Regardlessly, the combat is fast-paced and fun, and seeing that windmill with the Tonfas just has a way of making my day... Nice work!

Loved the game ...

Loved the game even though it has a few weapons I still prefer to do some crazy tactic to survive.

Not that great, but istill pretty good

As said before, the biggest problem is that there is so much lag between each strike mostly at the end of a combo, but there are other problems, for instance:

Quickly switching from uzi to shotgun rapes most enemies since the recovery time becomes inexistent, it doesn't really matter if they get kinda close, in that case I just jump over them with the tonfas
There are far to few weapons compared to before, though I admit the tonfas look pretty cool, the sword looks a little too basic for a game with only two weapons
Sometimes enemies defend my strikes and paralyze me at the first attack in my combo and get an easy hit no matter how much I try to dodge, I understand the defend function to prevent eternal combos but it's annoying
And also, the dodging is really not that useful, most of the times it's better to just jump away, also, make it so Encon can't get hit while he is getting up

However, despite the flaws, this game has good graphics, good sound effects (keeps you in the action) and Encon looks pretty cool. I'm looking forward to this game engine applied on a more on a storyline-centered game, like the first Fear Unlimited
