Reviews for "Sanctuary"

This piece took me back to a time when I was about 12 years old. It reminds me of times when I was really into books. I read a lot of great classics during that time. The Hobbit, Treasure Island, Peter Pan, The Hunchback, etc. Great American classics. I don't know why, but this music immediately sparked a reminiscence, and brought a genuine smile to my face.

Musically, you've written a wonderful little melody that makes a lot of sense. It says what it wants, and doesn't confound it with unnecessary extras.

Wonderful music, friend.

Reading is such a wonderful pleasure. I'm glad this was able to bring back fond memories for you! Thanks for the review.

Now, talking seriously, this is just so... Heartful... Another outstanding piece of work, Mr. Blazing. I could keep listening to this loops hours and hours in and not get tired. Why? Because it's so simple it stands in the crowd. Many musicians attempt various colors, green, red, purple, and all that, but the real ones that make a diference are white and black, now you may be asking yourself, "What the hell does he mean by comparing colors with music??", and the answer is: "It is very simple, while musicians nowadays attempt to get their songs shining, they make it so well that it may blind your eyes, now, the musician that looks to the simple idea, and just take the dust out of it, has way more chances of doing a successfull job, as it is easier and much more joyfull to look to a candle than to a lamp. And by the way, the story is as hearfull and as joyfull to read as the music is to listen... Thank you, again, for the amazing work of art.

(By the way, english is not my first language, so pardon any grammar errors or maybe if i could not get the message of the review clearly. Simply: This work of art is awesome)

BlazingDragon responds:

When writing a big, grandiose piece with a thick stack of instruments, it is easy to sound impressive without doing anything interesting. Music is much more transparent when written for small groups of instruments. In a piece such as this with just violin and harp, the sound is intimate and exposed. There is nothing to hide behind if the melodies are dull; no clanging of the cymbals or pounding of the timpani.

I think that many composers get too caught up in trying to to sound "big" and "colorful" when they don't even know what they are trying to communicate. Music is like language in that it is a medium for conveying ideas and telling stories, but it is even more powerful than words in conveying raw emotion. Writing big, colorful pieces of music without having a message to convey seems pointless. I'd much rather compose simple music that speaks from my soul and life experience.

Someone recently told me, "You could be the world's greatest orator, but if you don't have anything to say, it does not good." In the same way, you can have a vast amount of musical knowledge, but if you don't compose from the heart, the music will suffer. That may sound cheesy, but I truly believe it.

Thank you for the thought provoking review. I agree with you wholeheartedly. :)

Peaceful, quiet, somber... all the makings of a Blazing work of art... I'm sorry, I'm finding myself too lost in this piece to do it any kind of analytical justice. It's one of those things I just can't look at objectively because it's too engrossing, and as fastiane has already said, massive props for having the awesomeness to submit a classical loop.

BlazingDragon responds:

This is my favorite kind of music to compose; pieces that hold contemplative peacefulness to them while being introspective and bittersweet. They are the pieces that best represent the way in which I approach the world. I think it comes through in most of my pieces here. Drifting, Sadness and Sorrow, Story Left Untold, this...I have to put more effort into composing up tempo pieces honestly, as they don't naturally fit with my personality.

Thank you for yet another kindly review, Chaos. :)

Really sweet sound. Mad respect for being one of the few on NG to make an actual classical loop. Sometimes all the fast paced electro songs on NG can get old really fast.

BlazingDragon responds:

Some of the electronic songs are really amazing, but it does seem like there is a lot of trash out there as well. I try to be refreshing and add something a little out of step when I can. Thanks. :)

Wow... Very soothing piece (I don't know if it's correct English but "soothing" seems to be the right word to qualify this!)
I wish this track were longer! I really imagine like a lyrical lift of cellos in the end, just to come back to your soft loop...
Will you continue it? :)
In any case, very good job!

BlazingDragon responds:

Soothing is a good word to describe this. Your English is better than that of many people in the U.S. actually. At least in writing. :)

I don't think I'll ever add more to this track. I wanted to make a track that would serve as good background/looping music in a game. Perhaps it could be used on a menu on a game or sad seen between characters? I think making it longer and more complex might take away from the simplicity that makes it lovely. If I were to turn it into a stand alone piece rather than a loop, I'd love to add a solo cello melody where this comes to an end. Then I could introduce a whole string section and some light woodwinds passing the melody back and forth. That would be nice. :)

If you want to continue it, you can! Thank you for reviewing. :D
