Reviews for "Across the Universe: Ep.1"

Pleasantly surprised.

I really thought I'd be x'ing this out after the intro but it turned out well. Something I'd suggest you improve on that'll have a nice effect on your future projects in balancing subtlety all around. Example is the transition of focus points in the scene where the phone was playing and the transition from the character to the phone happened so suddenly it just looked like you blurred the phone in one frame and made it clear in the next. An other thing that just felt odd was the voice acting of the girl on the answering machine. She sounded a little to concerned and the fluctuation in her voice just didn't fit. Only reason I'm criticizing these things is because of the ambiance and overall tone you're trying to put together. When subtlety is the emphasis on a scene or project subtle mistakes or fluctuations stick out and disturb the mood.

I really enjoyed the production value of this flash and regardless of art I think you have translated the mood of the story really well. Just careful when trying to mix drama and subtlety, it can be tricky.

Interesting

There was a brief clip from the movie that reminded me of a dream I once had when I was little, the part with the door, only it was a swarm of leathery black blobs that looked more like demented car seats instead of odd spacemen outside.

I liked the movie but there were two things that I did not like:

The dialogue: It wasn't awful, but it wasn't really good either. What I mean is that the writing was kinda bland ("something happened to me, I don't know what it was...but it's slowly changing me", just felt kinda stereotypical and was too, average) in its exposition and generally felt too...spoken, the lady on the phone seemed to try her best with acting the lines but it still didn't really convey the emotion of concern.

The idea: This feels like a hybrid of "A wrinkle in time" and "The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" and I know it's near impossible to come up with an original idea, but then again this is the beginning of the series and could turn out completely different, I'm just telling you the vibe I get from this.

Overall, you did a decent job, but maybe you could flesh out the writing a bit more, and get the voice actors to get more in character because it sounded more like they were reading their lines more than they were acting the lines out. It is a good movie and a nice start to a new series, good luck with it :).

By the way: 100th review! :D

good

this was a good flash makes a good anime show or another silent hill game

Good

It was really good, I overall like the story, great writing, and nice cliffhanger. Everything was good except for the animation; it was lazy and seemed like it was thrown together, like you wanted to just get it over with and finish it. Just spend more time I guess, you have the ability, you just didn't give this one as much care as you could have.

Just a well made flash!

The animation and animation style was awesome. It keeps the watcher interested. As did the sounds earlier in the flash. but later on, im not sure the quality seemed to degrade a little, but the development of the story, the suspense, and the cliffhanger more than made up for that.
I'm excited to see how the rest of this story goes.
Seems like there is a lot of potential for a lot more episodes to come. Keep em rolln.
