Reviews for "Dogfight 2"

GLITCH!

every time i hit the fire button when it tells me to start the level it drops a bomb and i automatically receive damage at the beginning! i am supposed to press 'SPACE' right?

In the Name of the Kaiser, the Skies Shall Run Red

OK, let's start with the bad.

Firstly, this game is nothing groundbreaking or new. While some improvements are implemented, this is not all that far removed from the first Dogfight. The same basic game system, controls, and planes have remained intact. If you hated the first one, you will still hate this one.

Secondly, I am most displeased to have to play the Germans.

The fact that those are the only two complaints I have should tip you off as to the quality of this game.

In terms of gameplay, not much has changed. However, as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, several improvements have been made over the first game. The three most obvious are the additions of "Ace Moves," which you can use to daze and confuse the enemy while you position yourself for the kill, and the second is an entirely new system of scoring, which includes new bonuses for doing certain things, as well as a score multiplier that goes up for every mission you complete intact, but gets knocked down to zero if you fall in battle. However, by far the most welcome change is the introduction of bombs. Gone are the days when you had no choice but to charge headfirst into an AA gun and hope you destroyed it before it did you. Well, at least gone are the days when you HAD to do that, as you only have a limited amount of the "puppies", and you will still be forced to charge if you squander them. They are extremely welcome, to say the least.

However, under the surface, you can see more subtle improvements. The AI has obviously gotten an overhall, as the number of planes crashing into the ground without being damaged has clearly been knocked down to a rather insignificant amount, and the two sides coordinate their tactics more frequently. They can easily destroy the lax or unalert player. In addition, the picturesque mountains and forests have largely been replaced by the shell-shocked, barren landscape of No-Man's Land, which is both more historically accurate and a very good show of graphic design.

Finally, however, I would like to give kudos to the music. In the first Dogfight, the heroic and daring music was certainly one of the strong points of the game, save for repetition issues. The score of this game has similar boons and flaws. The darker, menacing, almost villainous track fits the Red Baron well, and it is immediately obvious you are playing the "Bad Guy," but in a very good and effective manner. However, as time wears on, you will probably see it grate on you like its predecessor did.

So, overall, the fact that I am willing to set my ideological scuples aside to fight for Der Kaiser against the scrounge of Democracy should give you a hint as to this game's quality. If you hated the first Dogfight, you will still hate this one (but I repeat myself), but if you liked the first Dogfight, you will love this one.

However, in the future, perhaps you could give we Western Allied fanboys some love by souping up a game with the Allies? Prettyplease?

In addition, perhaps a change of format may be in order to fully realize the potential of this engine. For instance, perhaps you could set up a "Career" game like the old World War Aerial sims where you can pick your side and fight through the war (and perhaps change it) like the great Dawn Patrol and Red Baron? That would be a truely deep and grand game.

Nevertheless, I can't complain about what we have now. This is another solid entry and worthy of praise.

Now, to push to the British and French from the territory that rightfully belongs to the Kaiserreich...

very fun!

Very well made game. Only down side is that it's too hard for me :P Can't make it past the level where you have to protect your own bombers :(

hitting enemies shouldent make u crash

what i said =/

Good Job

This game was sweet, had more fun playing this than I've had playing any sort of dogfight simulator, very fun to waste hours to. I liked the score too. I find most flash to have horrendous music, but I felt that this music hit the vibe of the game very well.
