Reviews for "Platformer Tutorial"

This is nice

I'm actually learning actionscript with a book and it really alks about all the functions in actionscript but sometimes i'd rather just learn how to do these kind of things, even though I din't really do it but still it's nice to read :P. didn't like the music though...

chunkycheese12 responds:

U can turn the music off in the right click menu. And yeah, this sort of stuff is easy for beginners, but functions and onEnterFrames or whatever aren't very different to this, so one day try to learn them :).

Brilliant

Great Tutorial 9/10,I think it`s great,well described.
P.S.Is the code in Flash or Javascript or what?

chunkycheese12 responds:

In flash, Actionscript 2 or AS2 :)

Not bad.

It's not bad. Could be better, but not bad. The movement section is pretty clean. As you said, not the greatest AI. Also, you could pick up the items by swinging at them. Of course, this could actually be incorporated into a game, but it's not the greatest thing in the world. Also, you should probably try to stay away from coding in movieclips. It's fine if you do, but if you want to transition into AS3 anytime soon, you should probably code in the timeline. It's also a lot easier to find stuff, because everything is in one place. Also, there's a glitch where if you jump, and attack while in the air, you fall through the ground. Not horrible, and really easy to fix, but still, you know what I mean. So overall, it was pretty good for a beginner to low-intermediate actionscripter, but it could be better.

chunkycheese12 responds:

I know, it's for beginners. I code on the frame now, but for beginners who dont want to travel to AS3 should keep it simple in movieclips for now. This tutorial was made for 'i dont know much' people.

Great!

Very informative! One of the great things about this tutorial is the fact the it has explanations which helped me understand a lot.

great job!

chunkycheese12 responds:

Thanks :D. I explained it well so you can use it for other things ;)

Good idea.

However, test it a little more. You forgot to white out the blank space between Link's arm and his body when he blinks (so there's a big green spot from the sprite sheet), and there aren't any walls at the borders of levels, so when you run off the screen he falls into an endless void. :P

Not to mention I haven't the slightest idea how to open that door. I grabbed the key, but he doesn't seem to want to open it.

chunkycheese12 responds:

You press space next to the door :P
