All right, shoot 'em up lesson time:
You do not give momentum to your ship. It is almost impossible to dodge the very tight bullet patterns you gave to the enemies because the ships movements aren't exact. When trying to dodge, I need the ship to do exactly what I tell it to, not fly all over the place. Same for recoil when firing or knockback from bullets.
Also, before anyone says it, no, the shield doesn't help. It doesn't last long enough or fire fast enough to make up for the fact that it's almost impossible to dodge anything.
On a different note: This is a shooter. It doesn't have a story because it's a shooter. If you came into this for a story, you probably came into it for the wrong reason.
