Reviews for "Blueshift"

"WOW"

This is one of the most addictive games i've played since geometry wars, AND it's a flash game! Most of the time flash games don't compare to console games, but this one is as good (or better) as most console games.

pretty good

I really liked it, a variety of weapons and ships. some of the weapons weren't very effective ( who attaches a buzz saw to an aircraft? ) but they were still kind of fun to use. a nice variety of enemies two, and some pretty good bosses. the shield seemed sort of unreliable because it was just a quick burst and never seemed to work when I really needed it, but it could have been because I was moving at the time, all in all a really good game.

Fantastic

One of the best side scrolling shooters on NG. Certainly a great example of how great graphics does not make a game (although the backdrops were pretty high quality). However, it saddened me that on The Last Stand, the final boss never shows up. I tried deleting my temp files and reloading the game, starting a new game on easy so I could get to it fast, and the same thing happens. The level progresses normally, but when you get to the end, you just fly there with no enemies forever and ever. I tried it on a different system even and the same problem happened, so I doubt it's the machine. Maybe you should check into this.

Great selection of weapons and characters. As was said before, the slow, heavily armored character is way too slow for the minimal amount of bonus health she gets. One fix is to simply make her a little faster. Another could be that her shield lasts 0.2 seconds longer. Give something to make people see some sort of trade-off for all that speed. I can almost say the same thing for the fast character. Her speed sometimes is more of a hinderance than a benefit, so a little quirk like 1.1X shoot speed would be nice. Not enough to overpower either of them, but enough to make the differences notably beneficial. Wish I could unlock the hidden character!

Also, you might want to get rid of score submission. Either that or fix it. Give dying a penalty such as returning the player's score to the amount it was AT the checkpoint, minus a certain amount (or percentage). Right now you can just kill almost all of the enemies in a level, then die and do it over for more points.

If you're thinking about making a sequel (which I highly recommend) here are some ideas for other weapons (Sorry if they're already in the game past the Last Stand portion):

Mini-EMP - Damages enemies in a close vicinity of the ship (radius attack)
Spoke Gun - Three to four 'spokes' rotating while fired (like the spinning gun on the land crawler bosses)
Electric Whip - Imagine the flame thrower but less area and harder to control (more susceptible to 'gravitational pull')
Mine-Layer - Self explanitory, make sure they move (slowly) or they could stay on screen forever!
Force Gun - A wave (much like the wide shot gun) that does little damage, but pushes enemies back a little
Deflector - Much like the shield, but rather than absorb energy, it reflects it (hexagonal shield = 6 reflection surfaces) Slow refire rate like the shield of course... but then again, this may be a bad idea (one could alternately shoot and use the normal shield and be pretty much invincible unless you tweaked it a little)
Charged beam- Combination between normal and wide beam guns. Hold attack to charge, the longer you hold it, the wider/more damage it does. Quick presses will be very much like the normal beam gun

I would love to see what's past The Last Stand. Little bugs like that aren't worth docking points from a game for as long as you get the gist of the game, and this is getting all of my five.

OM-fuckin-G
