Its not as bad as you think it is ....
of course it needs improvement in animation and such but its alot better than what i usually see under judgement....
My suggestions:
1) levels
2) plot (always nice)
3) score
4) make it easier to tell when they are about to hit you
5) multiple types of meteors
6) make em spin
7) better sound fx for the shooting and when they hit you

Not the best game ever, but it was challenging to keep up with, so I won't totally kick your ass. I love your humility. At least you know there's stuff wrong with it. Now make it cool for me, Yes?

Not to bad I have seen far worse so don't cut your shelf short just add a levels and a scoreing system and you will have decent game.

Overall, considering the original purpose of the game, it could be worse. If you feel like putting in the extra time to give it some upgrades you could do a few things:
1. Get the score meter working (lol for pointing out it doesn't work)
2. Possibly add a level system, something similar to Galaga or whatnot would do the trick imo, with increasing meteor speed, etc ... you get the idea :)
3. Add some form of music (with mute)
4. Clean the game menu up a bit possibly
Those are my suggestions, otherwise its a good platform to do something creative with if you want to
