Reviews for "Cardboard City"

I could've done something more fun with 4 minutes.

I would have to agree with rainbows a few posts down, for the most part. In his defense:

"Yeah I think you would have done a much better job organizing the whole thing than me and Nick did, sorry we didn't ask you if you wanted to in advance. You would have made it much more interesting, I'm sure."
The fact that he did not make it does not render his ideas null and void. To give you some idea of how stupid that sounds, look at everything you've ever criticized, including Hollywood movies, books, foods. How much of that could you have done yourself? Your movie is well-organized, sure, but there is no denying that it was boring.

"actually, a lot of people have said it was good. and if they didn't actually SAY in the review 'it was good', then they said other stuff, and gave it a nice score. This folks, is called subtext. its when people can derive the artist/author's meaning from something even when they didn't make it blatantly obvious."
Everyone has a certain method of scoring. Some people, including me, include plot in the scoring of a movie. Without any form of plot whatsoever, your flash is not engaging to your audience. Sure, you might understand your hidden meaning in your flash, but I can assure you the vast majority, likely all, of your viewers did not see it. This is because there was no plot, which can be thought of as a medium for the viewer to learn your theme.

MorrowDays responds:

he's been kind of crazy. sending me like, 5000 word responses arguing why he's right. :|

you're probably right. the first of your quotes was mostly sarcasm, and your right that I couldnt do nearly as good as a lot of stuff I criticize.

a lot of people are getting hung up on the 'hidden meaning being too hard to find', or that there was no plot, and there right. there was no plot. there also wasn't really any hidden meaning, but a theme that could be taken from it would be isolation, or loneliness.

Myself, I don't mind watching things with no plots. I enjoy animated sequences without stories. Thats probably one of the reasons the majority of my work ends up having no plot, because I like it that way. But I'm in the minority. All of you articulate critics like you and rainbows speak against that idea of unscripted or at least un plotted animation, which is cool with me, I just think its too bad you can't like things out of that realm.

I hope nothing I've said sounds insulting. I've had enough arguing for one submission. sorry if it did sound mean though. its not intended.

Great

There was no plot, but there wasen't suppose to be one. I appreciate that, and thought it was unique. Brought out interesting emotions, because the city felt real. It just felt like it could be a real city... i liked it. Music was great too.

Job great done.

now i know

there wasnt a plot but wud it kill ya to put it in there? that like running 9.8 kilometers and not running through the finish line there bud..in fact...i didnt even watch all of it cuz it was...boring..i kno u dont care to hear that but it was horrible..im here on newgorunds to be entertained..not watch u make something and say...good job...sry pal....try a plot sometime

Unique

I like the textures and general animation. The only thing holding it down is the lack of storyline. For something lacking a storyline, it may have been a bit long, but none the less, I thought it was well done a creative. Always nice to find something different.

smooth

i really like this a lot. one of the best loading screens ever!! also the music was awesome!! it sounded like bass clarinet and bass clarinets are most awesome!!
