Reviews for "The Octahedron"

Man! How much timie do you think I have!?! @~Q

Okay, overall it was quite a good toon. I Liked it. Reminds me of the Peanuts somehow. Don't know why. But straight to the point. I know, that this might have been a lot of work. This might even be the longest Flash-toon I've ever seen, but man. If you do something that long, at least give me scene select or a pause button. If I get a phone call or I have to get my fries out of the fry, I have to watch the toon all over. That's frustrating. I might end up quiting. With all respect to your work and sweat you've put in this, that's something, you just can't do.

I personally thought, that it would be over, after he got his paper thingy out of the Tree. But NO!!! Still it went on and on and on. And between the sequences so much unfilled space. Filled with waiting. Give it a little bit more action. Not the kind of "oh!Blam! Blod and Gore Blam! Blam!" action, but let them do something.
The long flying sequences the long pauses between actions or conversations, the length of some scenes like the tree climbing, where we've already got what he's doing after the third pencil. All that things are way to long. All I can say to that is "keep it short and simple". Let's stick with the pencil thing, while we're on it. Three Pencils in the tree, after that you could already have made a cut and after that he could have been already on top of the tree, sticking the last pencil in. All the stuff in between was just empty space. Spare people watching it. And what's much more important than that, spare yourself animating it.

So on the whole it was some brilliant work without blood and gore, what I liked personally, but with a lot of stuff to improve on. So do yourself and your audience a favor and make it shorter next time. I think they'll actually be more grateful. So keep it going and thx for the hard work.

Good, stylish, but has no pace

This animation was very good, you sir have got a great sense of style, but what you got in that area you lack in rythm. The only problem I see in this animation is that it has a very, very slow pace, some parts simply drag on too far for their own good, causing the sensation that the animation is way too long. Long is not a problem if you know how to use rythm to your advantage. For instance, that giant part was good, creative, but you lost a lot of time making it bounce and showing the mathemathician building too much octahedrons, people had already got the idea before he builds the second, so you could have chopped part of the scene without fear of loosing track of the script. Other than that it was a fine work, very well drawn and animated, the characters were good and likeable and the backgrounds, though minimalistic, did their job well and didn't got in the way of the presentation, wich i liked because it changed the focus to the characters. The music selection was superb too, although at sometimes the volume was so low that i could barely make out some of those beautiful pieces. Sound effects were well selected too and well placed, and made the animation more fun to watch.
It was a good job, and i liked it very very much, but work on the rythm of your animations, long isn't bad if it's well paced, and if there's always something new happening onscreen, but hardly your average audience will sit through a movie that takes too long to develop the plot. Work on the rythm of your anims and you will do just fine!

Angelus-Mortis responds:

Thanks for the helpful review. Although I think I'm not familiar with the concept of rhythm, so if you could explain in more detail of what you mean, or direct me to a tutorial for that in flash that would be nice.

nice!

WOW, that was the longest flash movie i've seen so far
just a few things
- the generic sounds in the beginning were sorta funny, but using them the whole flash began to bother me since they became annoying
- you should've used a background because sometimes i couldn't see which way he was going, at the castle of the parents of the princess: those green fields with flowers were pretty, if you could've added something like that to the movie I'd like it more.
- you also could've made some more jokes, not that this makes the movie worse
- after the castle my attention started to draw away but because it was 10 MB I was trying to be nice so i watched the whole movie, it really is a great movie, but the characters could've used some color, but that would probably be all over the size limit.
- the main character was DAFT, at the tree when retrieving his octahedron he stood tere being daft, after that he put pencils in a tree, and he took way too long retrieving it.

But apart of that it was a marvellous (:P) flash and I sorta enjoyed it though i had to bear the sheer boringness of taking too long

the bubbles!!!

this was a great animation yet i give it an eight because its too long and the bubble sounds were quite annoying after a while.

Ohai!

At first I was becoming really bored and wanted to stop watching, but something told me I should keep watching anyway... And I was rewarded!
I thought it was very cute and well done, and had a very nice story. It was too long, but very, very sweet. ^.^
