Reviews for "NSG014: ASFree"

haha

it took me a few seconds to understand what the hell was going on, but i got the hang of it in the end, that's quite entertaining

Bezman responds:

Glad you liked it!. :-)

ha good game

but a little instruction should have been added took me a few seconds to figure out what was happening

Bezman responds:

Cheers.

But I honestly thought the 3 lines of text I had were enough. And if you managed to work it out anyways and won, then that suggests I don't need to do any more explaining. What would you suggest I write in addition?

As well as being a test of mouse-manipulation, consider it a little puzzle, which you beat!

....

Like the others, took me a while to find out what was happening in this story.

Bezman responds:

I assume you worked it out within a few seconds though?

Hrmmm... maybe I should make a sequel and explain things more fully.

Silly!

A nice little experiment in Flash, and a light amusement. The absence of any sound effects is a slight disappointment. If I was prepared to examine Flash in an editor, this experiment would be even more interesting as an example.

The black-on-white and large pixels feels appropriate to this neat hack/artwork. But I wonder whether anything more sophisticated than this game could be made without ActionScript. Could Flash bytecode be generated by other means?

Bezman responds:

I guess you could theoretically make a .swf that was programmed but not with AS. I mean, theoretically, it could be made with a text editor, so I'm sure some 3rd party stuff lets you make it in a more realistic manner, without AS.

I interpreted the challenge to be 'without programming anything' though. The only interactive thing you can make without entering a single character of code are the buttons and so I doubt it could be any more complex. For further thoughts & info by myself and others, read this:

Glad you enjoyed the concept & font, which I made myself.

SFX are something I overlook when rushing to get a game out, but I really shouldn't. Thanks for reminding me!

Intresting

Thought I wouldn't say this is without actionsctipt because you use actionscript in the buttons don't you? So yeah, it doesn't seem to be totally without it, though trying to follow a long line that's narrow seems to be pretty hard to do, maybe something a little easier to start and harder as it goes in.

The game itself is pretty intresting, though not really the most exciting game to play, more than just holding and draging to get to somewhere would have been nice, clues to where it is too, like riddles and such. Maybe a little more actionscript would be needed than just buttons but yeah. Also maybe show a timer for it, would help, lol.

3/5

Bezman responds:

I already explained this all in the BBS thread that I link to above.

The buttons don't use AS - I just use the different frames to show changing graphics. Seriously, no AS.

You get to see the button fading out as you go over it. Is a timer really needed?

Riddles might be cool, but hard to think of... still, I've got an idea...

Thanks for the review!
