Exelent as always, and I didn't expect any less.

Review + Possible BUG

Wow, from Sonny to Tainted Kingdom. It definitely had a different feeling, since I'm used to seeing RPG games from you, and not strategy games.

Where to begin....

Well for one, the voice acting from Andrew and Joshua was absolutely real, and it gave the characters in the game their own unique personality. The voice for each character was so noticeable, in which I mean if someone were to speak, even if you weren't looking at that person, you'd know exactly who that person was just by their voice. Whoever voiced Darchael must have voice emphasis as 2nd nature to him because WOW, the mission 9 voicing he did was just simply stupendous. Great job on the voices. Plus, the story plot itself was unique and great as it was, with an ending that I really didn't see coming. (Not going to spoil it for the people reading this review though)

OH YEAH, more awesome music by David Orr. The man never fails to deliver for themed games such as these. Battle music was just epic for the ears, and simple and calm menu/strategy field music kept me feeling concentrated at the task at hand. This guy really knows how to make a game interesting by music.

The gameplay was pretty complex for me at first because I wasn't sure how the system worked until I fiddled around with it on the 2nd level a few times. Upgrades were a must in this game because I could of sent my best unit, and even the regular melee knight, fully upgraded, could kill my unit. A problem I felt the Royal Guards had were that they were only most effective against Crusaders. Sure, they're MEANT to be efficient against Crusaders specifically, but I thought they'd do more damage to the other units, like the knight or priest. Sure, when I sent my Royal Guard against a knight, my Royal Guard won, but the margin that I was hoping the Royal Guard would win by wasn't much. In the end, Crusaders were the top choice of units to use in this game. Fast, powerful, and able to take on ANY unit, unless if it was a royal guard (and even then, sometimes my Crusaders would beat Royal Guards).

One suggestion I probably have for this game is bosses. There wasn't a single mission that had anything boss-related happen in it. I know that it would be pretty hard to implement a scenario for a boss fight because usually a hero would take on the boss, but deadly commander would be impossible. Not too sure how to implement that.

(Possible) BUG:

Warning: To those of you reading this review, if you don't want to get spoiled over the bonus that you get after getting all 10 missions on Deadly Commander status, I suggest you don't read any further than this.

Alright, well onto the bug that I said in the title of this review. As you probably know, because of the pre-upgrades you gave us in mission 4 and mission 9, those missions were possible to do. However, when you play as the Ancients for mission 4 and 9, the pre-upgrades are taken away, and you're unable to beat even the first area in mission 4 or 9. I suffered defeat almost immediately after the battle began. I'm assuming this is a bug because no matter what method I try, I can't beat mission 4 or 9 as the Ancients. Hopefully you'll fix this.

Another small tidbit bug (Not that it really bothers me too much, but I thought I'd mention it) that I encountered was during mission 10. After I defeated the Imperial Offensive..... That's right, I defeated the "Unstoppable" army of the Imperials (Thanks to the help of Darchael of course, so I didn't get Deadly Commander during that particular run through of that mission), I beat only one of the purple bases and it said I was victorious. I guess you accidentally made it so that only 2 DIFFERENT bases had to be taken over, instead of 2 PURPLE bases, in order to achieve victory.

So yeah, I've got to say I haven't had that much fun with a strategy game on Newgrounds for quite some time, and it was a pleasant surprise to see it come from you, Krinn. I'm definitely waiting in fierce anticipation for the sequel this game. As good as this one was, I can only imagine the surprises that await in the next game.

Krinn responds:

Thanks for the great review Nondo! I'm glad you enjoyed the game :D The bugs you mentioned I definitely overlooked, and I'll try to fix them!

Thanks for playing! I'll be looking forward to another monster review from you on Sonny 2 :D

Great suggestions about the bosses! I'll keep that in mind for future RTS projects. :)

Krin

Epic..

The gameplay is brilliant, it is easy to pick up and hard to master. The storyline is... well a storyline in a flash game, pretty rare to even have a half decent one little lone a good one. I played this game for a day to beat it, it is very fun and slightly addictive. Great job.

*Love the Priest Hunter combo by the way*

basic

its an ok game its not realy that cool tho

Very engaging!

The artwork, sound/music, story were very very engaging! I really enjoyed this game. The cut scenes were very well done, great for addition to this defense game. 10/10!!!
