you dont give enough info!!!! Also u need to learn A LOT more about a zombie epocolipse. First, zombies cant run after you so if ur friend falls u could distract the WALKING zombies and ur friend could escape. also a shotgun is not as good as a submachine gun like the mp5 because of not as much ammo.

Q1. You'd definately distract the zombies first because going back will trap you both but distracting them will save him to either help you or escape to a destination that both would find save while being faster than zombies would get away fairly easily and be able to meet back up with the freind.
Q2. weapon shop is good but if your a smart person you'll keep working weapons in your house like a pistol or hatchet plus the easily fortification.
Q3.Baseball bat would be too crude and would be a mess if you miss or it hears you befor you get close a shotgun would offer normaly more distance and shells would be basicly right next to the shotgun and only one shell is needed offering distance and effictability.
Q4. Most weapon shops will only store dulled long blade weapons. MP4s always by law are single shot when sold to citizens and be perfect to hit the nerveis system in between the eyes on the bridge of the nose. But shotgun would be the main weapon.
Q5. Home would work best because you could fortify the doors and lower windows and have much more usable supplys than stores in a mall because even if the stores weren't looted the panic cuased and the zombie presense would knock them on the floor and smash them to bits. plus no people would be there they'd either be infected or left in search of a more secured or open area where rescue would be accesable no help would enter a feeding ground just to save 1 person.
Q5. with sense yeah checking forcefuly would be good but if you do that they'd probly wouldn't trust you first you ask if there okay then you ask if they can prove that they aren't biten then you ask for the name to build a good trusting relationship.
At first i thought you were doing this by "movie" knowlage shotgun works famously on zombies, Malls can be fortified well (just makes more area youd have to check hourly even if you do get all the zombies out or killed.) etc. but come on in all movies and even basic knowlage freinds must be kept unless infected then you either leave them only to face them later or kill them with mercy. Please to not try and take this as me pissed off me pissed off it unsurvivable and if anyones interested once i get a flash maker or something simular to make a quiz i will and you should be able to get an acuret score of survivablity with miskters of movie knowlage, common knowlage, and of course The Zombie Survival guide. All awnsers will calculate for a differed score. you know Intellegence strength and other skills to calculate your role and chances to survive in different scenarios
