Excellent game. I've a little bit of background in CADD and structural engineering, so this is right up my alley. Without increasing ply ratings or width of beams or adding more bearing points its hard to make a base wide enough to support any real structure... at least for me. My best was around 1250. Anyways, great game, really enjoyed it.
Actually, pylons connected to the foundation points are some five times stronger than other connections, so you're entirely safe in buildng outwards before building up.

I was searching for something like this,to mess with.
Reminds me of old game(I don't remember title) where you had to build proper bridge for train to pass,same style as here.
Well,only thing I can complain about here are graphics,those could be smoothed up a bit.(You could ask-"Graphics with steel pillars You moron?!?") Well,yeah.To make them look better.
But that's all.Generally it's nice time killer:)
(don't mind the score,for full 10 You would need to fix instructions and alter graphics;) )
