Great game, but Edmund mcmillen actually made a statement on the game's story. He made it after his step-dad had died, so he made this game as a representation of what he imagined his mother to feel. Something along those lines.
Despite the game's constant themes involving love and fertilization, this game is actually about death and how people dwell on it. Again, I am only paraphrasing.

What is this, I don't even...
I'm thinking the woman was a whore (a better word does not come to mind at the moment) and she fell in love with one of her clients, who got her pregnant when they met. After that, the woman is trying to track down this man with nothing but maybe a name to go on. She is battling with pain, ridicule, family troubles and other things along the way. Or perhaps I'm totally wrong. =)
Anyway, the visuals were very wonderfuly desaturated, and the animating was smooth. The controls, as many have pointed out, are a bit sloppy, but it's not that bad.
I like it. Indeed, I like it.
The story line is pretty ambiguous. I interpret it to be about a girl who loses her virginity from rape, and she tries really hard to move on and get it out of her mind, but she can't? I don't really understand why most of the gameplay involves an embryo. Also, during the "gameplay", the controls are pretty bad and it gets tedious trying to move the "character". The music is absolutely beautiful and so is most of the artwork.
