Reviews for "Windows Errors 2007"

Not Great

The first thing I noticed was the fact that the buttons on this where kind of hard to click, you have to click on the text and can't click the space between letters. Have some pactice on making better buttons. The ease of use of this is good but the actual point is kind of eh, it's not really that much fun and although some are mildly amusing, none of them are really that funny, nothing more than smile worthy.

The lack of animation and anything much to do is a real let down, I was expecting something more of an error creation game or something. There isn't really anything that sticks out to me on this. Just seems too simple and not very entertaining. Keep trying though.

This is an old flash, and the 08 version will have loads of improvements

Poor slideshow at best.

The thing I'd really suggest that you do before resubmitting this piece is to learn how to make buttons. Buttons that are only the size and shape of the letters are really bad news for games like this, as they tend to frustrate the users.

Other than that, it is just a slideshow, with a rather annoying backing tune. I'll admit, I did laugh at some of the jokes, but that's still not an excuse for making the slideshow into a submission to Newgrounds - I just don't like them, as there is no animation there at all and it's a rather basic program, not really embracing the spirit of Flash making.

Can't deconstruct humour well.

Error 22 was my favourite, as well as the one about memory failure.

A lot of these joke errors seemed to follow a bit of a pattern and felt a bit old-hat. I'd like to be able to deconstruct the humour and explain why, but I'm not a skilled enough comedian.

One thing I can say - the buttons were atrocious! You need to sort out the 'hit' frame - maybe use a rectangle so we can click anywhere in that area, not just on the actual text.

Also, on the last frame you should remove the 'next' button.

The fact that you listed it as a 'game' did give me false expectations and I kinda hoped it might be a windows simulator with loads of errors plonked in. I understand it's not really a movie though...

Found this a bit tiring generally, but unfortunately, I'm not able to explain why.

Some of the jokes here made me smile, but most of them didn't. I somehow expected to see some real error messages, not some fake ones (real error messages can be funny, too), so I was a bit disappointed.

The background music was well chosen, as it fitted the computer theme, but an option to turn it off would have been nice.

The main problem are the buttons. Only the text is clickable, not the spaces between the letters. That makes it needlessly complicated to press them. You should read some of the button tutorials here on NG to learn how to create better buttons.
Also, a "go back to start" button after one has reached the end of the slideshow would be nice, too.

Not much of a flash...

I don't really enjoy this sort of thing. As far as I know you just grabbed a bunch of "funny" error messages off a website, and there are some much better windows parodies out there, that have some more originality to them. The presentation is poor. A couple of buttons, forward and back? That means it's just a slideshow! You could have at least made the actual error messages into buttons. You could have done a ton of stuff to make this better, have an on/off button for the music, have more than one song to choose from. Have a proper background, make the buttons more aesthetic, make it more interactive. Make it something you can be proud of, use your own jokes, the different versions of windows error messages makes it look even more mediochre. I hope you try harder and put much more effort into your next flash. It's nothing personal, it's just that anyone could string together a flash like this in half an hour, without any real knowledge of flash beforehand.

Sorry =/

I know what you mean....... Well, just for your knowing, this is one of my first flashes. The error messages are generated using: atom.smasher.org

Many of them are classics. I'll might make a error game in Errors 2008, in which errors respond, but the slide show will still be there, but with windows (ok, depends on OS, the 08 edition will have many different OSs) background and that stuff. I'll make a sound on off button, and try to have more of my own ideas. Still, pretty many here was my own ideas, maybe someone else have got the same idea but, well......

Thanks for your review anyway!
