To answer your question. Ganon's mom kicked him out because he was low on rent that he was supposed to making as "the King of evil." Which he might actually have if he didn't fail so hard by losing to a little boy. I guess ganon just decided "This is an unlucky kingdom. Let's go take over another one that DOESN'T have a link... Er.. Or the master sword."
Ganon left with... 4 minions, thanks to link and his, as ganon put's it "fucking-fucking bombs'n'arrows"
Mario on the other hand.. Well. Put it this way. If you're an icon in nintendo world, after all your hard long experiences, you may develop an inability to ignore nearby pickups.
For example. Why is it no matter what game, when mario get's a mushroom, if he happens to find another one, knowing nothing will happen, he grabs it like a mushroom addict.
The alternate theory is that mario's a bad ass and he jacked that shit up which can explain links little "duh' fug be touchin my shit bitch!" *kick*.
