Reviews for "girl and troll by swamp"

This looks excellent, but I just can't help comparing your princess with the original one. Yours seems to be significantly less innocent. The original one is a girl who's just curiously observing her face, yet this one is a woman gazing upon the beauty of her body, looking quite vain while doing so. The look on the monster's face kind of highlights that. I feel like Bauer's work is in its essence very pure and I didn't think it was possible to draw something inspired by him that has to be rated M. If this was intentional then I'm impressed, you managed to see it in a completely different light and create a whole new atmosphere out of already existing art, all of which is extremely hard. However, if it wasn't intentional, and you wanted to capture the original atmosphere, oh well, it's okay, everyone gets better with practice.

It was actually intended, thank you for noticing. In the original story she is described as "young", "innocent" and "little", and I felt that something as pure as John Bauer's original painting could get seriously miss understood if I changed the scenario to that of my reincarnation here, and put it on newgrounds, among with all the fucked up shit you can find on this site; so I had to make her more mature. And if people think hentai when they see this (which they do apparently), imagine how I would look if I made the girl as young as in the original painting (no offence to all the loli fans out there, but I don't want to be a part of that shit). Anyhow, thanks for the review! I'm glad you like it and that my art can raise these kinds of questions, because that's what art is all about; making you think.

Is very awesome how, even adding the weird monster in the background, you kept the essence of the original painting (With your own style of course). Very well done.

I am overwhelmed by the positive feedback on this one. Thank you!

i think this is a really wonderful piece.
to me, almost everything is perfect - except for the two branches in the upper left corner... i think they look mirrored, so they keep stealing my attention. i'd try placing the right one lower, maybe you can achieve some sort of guideline from the upper left corner down to the center where she's sitting.
anyway, more importantly: i'm amazed by this work and as Sabtastic mentioned earlier, a print would be super neat. in case you work it out - notify me! :D

min3ralWater responds:

There, the branch was an easy fix. It bugged me too but no one else seemed to notice.
Thanks for the kind words! If I happen to stumble upon a printer with which I happen to print out a few copies of this piece, I'll be sure to notify you.

I dont know if you intended for this or not but what really gets me is how she's more enticed by her own beauty that she can't see the reflection of the monster behind her

min3ralWater responds:

I was a bit sceptical about this one because I felt it wasn't clear what the girl and the monster have to do with each other and why they're even in the same picture, so I'm glad you noticed this. I'm gonna pretend like it was intended :P Thanks for the review!

This looks gorgeous! I love everything about it.
You gonna post this as a print anywhere?

min3ralWater responds:

Thanks! that means a lot coming from you.
I would if I could, but I don't own a printer, nor do I have the access to one.
