A very intresting piece.
In Warcraft lore the world tree, Nordrassil, was damaged to stop a demon from destroying it, somewhat similar to this.
Also in the upcoming expansion, Ragnaros (Ragnarok) will send his fire elementals to attempt to burn the tree, another similarity to Norse mythology.
