God I loved 28 Days Later.
I think alot of the people here are too young to have seen 28 Days Later, so most only go on what the new movie (28 Weeks Later) looks like. In almost every fucking post thus far, these fucking prepubes can't shut the fuck up about 28 Weeks Later. Who cares. The flash movie was kickass, regardless of what movie the concept is based on. Go back and watch 28 Days Later, kids.
Also, the whole scientific explanation of membranes and viruses, or phages as we call them in the science world, was wholly amusing.
The virus in the movie is transmitted much the same way as AIDS: through the contact of bodily fluids (such as zombie blood or saliva, even though AIDS is not necessarily transmitted by saliva, as saliva can only contain insignificant traces of the virus) with either internal tissues (i.e. blood vessels and the like) or mucus membranes (such as the surface of the eyeball). A virus is not DNA alone; the entire unit is basically a transport for DNA, which it then uses to infect a living cell. These sorts of viruses are known as bacteriophages, and replicate their DNA within the host cell, eventually causing the host to lyse (burst) upon the release of the replicated viruses. An orifice is not a membrane, and vice versa, but virtually all major orifices of the human body are lined with a mucus membrane, typically consisting of stratified squamous epithelial cells.
Trust me, I'm currently studying biochemistry.
All in all, a kickass flash movie.
