Reviews for "Manbalon"

Holy Shit

Amazing.

What a weird style....

yet everything flows together. It is really weird and...trippy. Something that Van Gogh would create had he had flash....

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW

Hello, my name is Gus, and I go by the user-name GusPlease2020. I have recently finished watching your newest animation "Manbalon" and I find it humorous and unusual, just as I find many, if not most!, of your works. I will now offer my thoughts on its meaning and construction.

While you are able to elicit laughter with unusual voices (do I detect the infamous Xenon's presence as the uncredited personae of the titular Manbalon?) and certainly are no stranger to the varieties of design available to the Flash-animation suite by Adobe, employing in particular the house-brand of false technical glitches for which you have been made famous, this animation's greatest strength is, of course, the narrative bedrock upon which your dramaturgical dyad is able, unwittingly, of course, man's capability for selective enforcement of ethical thought. Much like Tyrone Slothrop's manic dodging throughout Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow," Manbalon and the unnamed grown man are would-be escapists from life and the insanity they see inherent in a world that allows, and even encourages, the horrors of war as a means of control and perpetuation.

I draw particular attention to what I call the "bedroom scene," which occurs at roughly the second hour, before the flight into Nepal and the climactic moments of the movie. Here is your greatest achievement so far, Somebody -- the juxtaposition of Manbalon recalling, finally in full detail, what happened to him in his youth that one day at the fairgrounds, with the ongoing medical procedure in Switzerland to save the grown man's life. You are able in a span of a few short minutes to show fully both the expanse of modern society's manipulation over the lives and choices of individuals and the individual freedoms and fragilities still present in anyone, man, woman and Manbalon alike.

Many may be put off by the Futurist or dada-leanings of the direction and production. In fact, so atypical and unconventional was the short that I anticipate many believing you to have been under the influence of illegal narcotics during its design and substantiation. Withholding moral judgment on the use of conscious-altering substances to enhance or modify the creative process, I posit: if it is true that you did exercise pharmaceutic resources in the origination of this photoplay, I solicit that you allow me an apportionment of the specified biologics, or, failing that, at least bequeath me their titles and aggregates.

somebody responds:

dont make fun of my addiction, its not something that im proud of.

Manbalon For the Win

I love bizarre funny situations like this, it was what makes David Firth such a good animator and I think this sort of style is something that can really be developed if you put the time into it. GJ i like that kind of wierd shit.

Utter Genius

Simply fantastic - in every sense of the word.
My first review is a 10!
Absolute genius; much like all of your work. Keep it up.
