Great, but... just an idea for you here
As you said, this isn't how the respiratory system works...
It could easily have been made more correct, and perhaps more fun (who knows?) if you had implemented the fact that oxygen is swapped with CO2 in the lungs. Maybe something with the little "thingies"/molecyles meeting a friend/foe/(rapist)? in the lungs which they are stuck to until the plants absorb them :)
I'd really like to see it if you choose to redo/extend this flash-piece, cuz it's a good idea, and you've got skill

but definetely make it longer and make the dead oxygen thingys have sub-auto rifles!
