Reviews for "Brink of Alienation: IV"

Its nicce but need polishing

Played on hard.
Its fun.
Nice graphics, decent sounds.
Nice maps..
nice animations
the character is well made, but is a weakling.
A lot of the gore was unnecessary, could use less.

Problems:
Hit detection need polishing.. the green "spits" often hit when they obviously didnt.

The game is hard enough, get rid of the limited lives.

why does the pulse rifle have a range THAT limited (like, 5 meters)?
If you want to make the first boss weak point hard to reach, make it accessible only from the top. Otherwise, the only way to damage bosses is shooting at point-blank range.. not fun.

Even on low quality, it lags a LOT. OMG, so much lag!

The controls are sloppy; the jump command tend to make our guy jump 2-3 times when we wanted only once. (remap the jump key to "spacebar" and put grenades on Q or E.
Or when we run foward, and stop pressing the button, he doesnt stop running for a good distance.

I dont see the point of "where you point you shoot" since this is a platformer. The bullets should go straight in the direction you point. and impact anything in that line.

Many of the stuff we pick up dont mention its role.. or its name.. or what it does.. we gotta guess a lot. Need in-game info, like "found ammo" or "found key"

There should be some kind of armor.

The "shark" ennemy is too strong, it can eat away 50% of life in a second or so, and you just have a weak unwieldy knife that only hit in front of you..

For some reason i could see some white/semitransparent texture when i was in the "glass tunnel", and my pointer was making it vanish.

The second boss was overpowered. That, and the lag, makes an impossible fight.

But if you can fix only one thing, fix the lag, the rest is minor in comparison.

oh.. the music is kinda nice, but unfitting to the atmosphere.

Awesome!

Hey Grant, this is Brian.

I think all that worked payed off, honestly. The graphics, animation, and effects were definitely well done, and it's obvious you put a lot of heart and imagination into it.

Anyway, the levels seemed pretty long, actually. The game was a good length.
However, there were a few flaws. For instance, the mech glitched out on me once (it stopped moving), which made me restart the whole game. Also, there were a few jumping glitches, but for the most part, it was pretty clean.

One more thing: The bosses were BADASS! The final boss was the coolest, in my opinion.

Can't wait to get the scoop on the next BOA project,
Brian

Ok

I loved the game and everything is stated in how i rated it above but one thing that pissed me off... You know when you go and try to catch that big rock guy with green stuff but he gets away on a ship, and you have to go back... I didn't, I didn't even go passed the arrows where they pointed backwards but it decided to put my under the game window and thus i couldn't play :P. Guess that teachs me for not listening to the guy.

It's good

I played to the point where I had to wake up the beetle/insect thing with blue dynamite because the game crashed.

Graphics - nice backgrounds, animation sequences etc
Style - good designs of monsters, original
Sound - gunfire sounded like someone hitting a toy drum. music was good.
violence - I'm desensitised to this so I don't really know what it is
interactivity - for the messages try using (rounded) rectangles and add some kind of border. also change the font to something else rather than typewriter style. develop some kind of HUD area at the bottom of screen like in doom
humour - N/A
Overall - you worked on this for over a year and I thought it was good even though I only played probably 1% of it; cos I got a slow laptop.
