I like the simplicity of the design. Tho im not sure if the colors you chose for the background fits too well with the character. Actually i think a dark starry nightskyish background would work better to make the character pop. Even tho it would be a bit generic.
This is great! I don't think you need to worry about being too late, as this site (*cough* Tom *cough*) is rarely super strict about that.
