Fun, but lacking

Fun game you got here, but here's a couple things i noticed you need to improve:

1) The AI does not want to obey where you go. Try to allow them to overlap, instead of having them all re-lineup in formation. The AI for the computer is also kinda...ehh. Kill one guy, then the guy next to him doesn't even attack me...which brings me to the next thing...

2) Cannons=WAYYYYYYYY overpowered. I blasted through this game laughing my butt off because it's so easy once you get the hang of it. Just try building 10 cannons. You'll take out EVERY enemy unit ON THE MAP without your units receiving a scratch! It's like a 1 hit kill for every enemy unit, lol. Either lessen the firepower or at least make the targetting more inaccurate or slow down the reload times on it.

Anyways, great thing you got going there, though. Just tweak it a bit and it'll be gold.

cannons are only useful up to a point - if you play the full game you would get slaughtered before you knew it. See comments below for ai.

glad you liked it : - )

Capturing game, but the controls...

Nice game, interesting, AI isn't utterly braindead ,although, if Your comrade is blasted to bits, standing in line and wandering WTF isn't exactly the norm. The deselction was a drag - if I click in friendly unit, i expect it to be selectable even if I have something else selected. Also, no button for stand Your ground. Troops rush into combat where they shouldn't and get under cannon fire. The ability to chart troops movement with control was awesome. I think that in next version You should add "stand ground", "hold line/formation" (as In, archers don't rush before the pikemen to slaughterhouse and troops don't rush under cannon fire), perhaps a bit more capturing tileset - less of the green hills, iirc china had some of desert areas too and why, oh why I can't scroll with my mouse nearing the sides?
Keep up the good work!

freeworldgroup responds:

ok ok - your comments are fair enough - it is actually very easy to program absolute control over the troops and stop them from doing anything... but we thought it would be more fun to add a little lack of control (human randomness) to the game. These aren't modern well trained soldiers - it's ancient China - they are rough... they like to kill and fight.

Scrolling with a mouse really caused headaches - it's easy enough to implement, but would really piss people off if things scroll at the wrong time. Using arrow keys is easy enough and gives absolute control.

we will give the soldiers more intelligence next time... but the idea of the game is for the player to do most of the thinking.

AAAAAAWWWWWWOME

This game was awesome and it reminded me of starcraft.

The first lvls wer ez but by the time you had got to the 3rd lvl u really had to think at fisrst because of the cannons.

you need to put stuff like when u double press the 1 key it would go to the majority group of swordsmen or w/e.

But nonetheless this game was fun to play even at school >.>

freeworldgroup responds:

thanks - hmmm there are hotkeys for all the units : - )

Excelence in a flash game... a Paradox?

This game is amazing, plz ignore the humor rating, since I believed that this games' target was not to make u laugh, but think. It was difficult, and the need for strategy was amazing, Keep the up the great work!

freeworldgroup responds:

thanks, yep, needs a lot of strategy as the game progresses.

sweet

just ignore what that last person said about ai it was pretty good and he or she probably doesnt know a thing about flash and nice job on the rts i tried to make one b4 and failed miserably so good job

freeworldgroup responds:

thanks - everyone entitled to an opinion.. we made the game the way it is because it felt right.
