Reviews for "Reflections >Remaster<"

Defo an improvement

but as stated below it gives too much piercing sounds at time. , and is lacking alot of low subs now. imo you still have a long way clearing this up all the way, but i'd go for it as the structure of the song and the concept is very very good! I especially liked the 2nd bass part with the more heavy, non 'talking' wobble, which went deep and hard hitting :)

So all together a brilliant piece of work, it just needs that extra refinement and here and there some db's down ;)

Glad to see actual good dubstep on NG though, your avarage NG dubstep producer just makes kick snare wobble wobble :)

mr-jazzman responds:

Thanks for your review Reignee! This is probably the most important review that has come my way. You see, you and I are experiencing two different songs at the moment. On my end, there was absolutely plenty of sub bass (part of the mastering job I did involved adding an extra layer of sub bass underneath), so I know for a fact that there is enough...it's just that there might be TOO much sub bass now. I played this version in my car, and the sub was so insanely powerful that it almost detracted from the rest of the song.

What I think is happening is that I'm mastering it wrong based on my headphones, which have a huge bass response. I've been going off of the feeling of the bass in my headphones -- which sounds absolutely orgasmic on my end, but cannot match up to people that are listening through a flat EQ setting. The song itself is cleaned up quite a bit, that much I do know; but I feel like now I'm gonna have to start doing my mastering through the flattest headphones I can possibly find, because I'm adding too much bass (strangely =P). Of course, on your end, this makes it seem like there isn't ENOUGH bass, because you're hearing possible noise cancellation due to the extremely low frequencies that resonate throughout the song.

So, in essence, this single review is changing the way I will hear my music. I need to get some new headphones and stop listening to it bass-biased (at least in production...because I love mah bass! ;) ). I just think it's a strange dynamic that an uber-present sub on my end would seem weak through your stereo! =P

And I agree completely with everything you said. My mastering skills have come a long way since I actually went ahead and produced this song, and there were some things that I tried to correct (but I couldn't correct all the way because then it would sacrifice the integrity of the song). So, please go ahead and listen to some of my stuff coming out in the future if you want to get a good taste of some of the newer sound that I've got coming -- or, you could listen to my drumstep remix of "Hell Yes," which also hits extremely heavily in the sub, so I won't be surprised if you think it's weak there, too. =P

Thanks again Reignee! I will try to address this problem in the future -- something that is minor IMO (not as big as you think), but absolutely necessary for producing great music! =D

Oldies

I preferred the old version, I loved the fuzziness and bassi-ness of the old wub bass.
This is too overpowering and too "treble" for me.
Epic track, but the old version IMHO is much better.

mr-jazzman responds:

Well...you're not the only one to say this. I'm gonna try redoing it from scratch and see if I can't get that bass to come out fuller.

nice

i really like all the sounds and effects you use but at 40 seconds you go crazy and it ruins those part of the songs if you didnt make it so loud and so much it would be much better but apart from that its a great song

mr-jazzman responds:

Uhm...thank you???

Nice Remaster

I like how you made it a bit less messy and clearer than the other one. But I gotta say the other one was better in my opinion. But in your defence I last listened to this song on my bass-biased Headphones and now I'm using my more, well lets say... Crappier headphones. Thats the only reason i'm rating this 8 instead of the 10 on the other one. Still best Dubstep I have listened to on NG so far :D. 8/10, 4/5

mr-jazzman responds:

Understandable. Still, can't wait to show everyone Reflections 2, which I hope to release in the coming months!

I'm probably the only one but...

Don't get me wrong i've had the other one on my music player for so long now and i loved the heavy bass wobbles.
This was actually of all dubstep my favourite dubstep song, Above all other actuall dubstep producers (Excision, Flux, Cookie Monster, Datsik Etc,)

And when this got remastered i thought to myself; "Woah this must be even sicker than i thought. So i listened and everything sounded better until 0:38 Where the bass comes in. I was very dissappointed. I expected the bass to be heavier AND nastier but instead they became more, clean and not heavy at all.
They wobbles now just feel empty to me.

I still love this song but the first one still sounds better to me. I hope i could just show you with this comment that i'm not ranting this song or you at all.
But just giving a listeners opinion!

mr-jazzman responds:

Ay, you're not the only person; a lot of people have (and I haven't had to tell people "I GOT THE MEMO ALREADY!" in a while lol). What I was trying to do was get my bass to sound more professional, but in the process of sidechaining, I actually caused my bass to thin out. I still don't think it's as thin as people claim, but I can definitely tell it's thinner than the original. There's a lot I would change about this number...which is why I want to recreate it from scratch with what I know now. It's amazing how quickly and how fast I've changed. If you heard what I was producing now, you'd fall over! ;)

And P.S. I am an actual dubstep producer...just lettin you know to be careful how you phrase things. I'm not pro (*yet), but I definitely still produce! ;)
